Absorbing Man
The infamous Marvel villain, with the power to absorb damage and literally and figuratively become what he eats. A heat ray would result in him becoming a being of heat; a punch would make him physically strong; being thrown into cement would turn him into cement. While at first this seems an unstoppable power, within it it contains the roots of his demise. The mentally quick can, with some time, beat out the Absorbing Man. Examples: Thor defeated him once by shocking him with electricity, then using Mjolnir to trap him and control him. Unfortunately, the energy that Thor pumped into shocking the Absorbing Man made the electricity almost unbearable; but this was unfortunate mainly to the Absorbing Man, because poor Creed got launched miles into the air and hit the ground.
Abilities:
Incredible Absorption: Part of Creed's power is an incredible ability to absorb the most powerful attacks. Note that even this and the other side of his power cannot save him from ULBs or powerful spells or the quick of mind and stout of body.
Transformation into Attacks: This is the other side of the coin, and the both incredibly deadly and incredibly dangerous (to Creed). He can, in one sentence, absorb what he gets hit by.
Weapons:
Ball-and-Chain: Who knows why, but Creed feels a special attachment to this ball-and-chain. Besides, the chain is connected to Creed in many ways, including coming to it's master when called and being able to absorb just like Creed.
Reviews:
Probably my first cold review on this site. The Absorbing Man is a great wild card to play, especially against opponents with a grand strategic plan that can be easily disrupted (i.e. someone great at putting together unstoppable parties, but someone not too great at changing his strategy if problems come up), or someone with a strong party but little strategy or tactics. I hestitate to say "your dumb friends", because very intelligent people can have very bad strategizing, and not-too-intelligent people can create great plans of action. But be careful. Creed's power can, with the right character or party master, be used to defeat himself with little or no effort. Watch out for ULBs and other unabsorbable attacks. Also watch out for characters with the powers to control things. A character who could control fire could defeat Creed in a few turns by blasting fire and then controlling Creed to do self-destructive things. He's a great person for a few essential jobs, however. I shall list those jobs: 1. Defeating physical fighters. Although physical damage is not as easy to absorb, Creed's huge endurance enables him to stay the hits from even very powerful fighters (example: see his fight with the Hulk). The punches and kicks will then go into boosting Creed's already respectable physique and beat your opponent at his own game. 2. Defeating characters stronger in levels than you. People who get much more powerful characters tend to get giddy (I know, I feel that giddy feeling myself), and you can use that feeling to pound down your powerful enemies. Your powerful enemy will tend to just laugh and hit Creed with a scornfully weak attack and then feel that next hit hard from Creed. By the time the enemy realizes that this might not be an easy fight, the powerful enemy usually just got their ass kicked. 3. Conversely, Creed is great at whomping weaker enemies. But be careful here: these weaker enemies will usually capitalize on their desperation and get together a working plan to kill Creed. Well, it's time for me to get off my high horse, but basically here's the idea: Use the Absorbing Man, but use him carefully and strategically. -Fred
