Technological Rating System
Also known as the techno-gauge, this fairly complex item has a fairly simple goal: to ascertain the relative and absolute level of technology on something. Absolute includes such distinctions as Primitive, Medieval, Nuclear, Nanobot, and Godlike (technology to such a high extent it is like omnipotence, ala Star Trek). Relative rates the system as compared to the user's own analagous systems.
One may store information on one's own robots and on known enemy robots, both to use it as another I.D. system (possibly an anti-I.D. Scrambler system) and to have more rulers to rate the detectee; i.e. I have the data on the Gundams, this system is about 50 years ahead of the Gundams, run. The system attempts to identify power source, material construction (both how the device is built and what it is made of), life support, weaponry types, and use this to diagnose the system as a whole. It is not unnatural for someone to have a better, more advanced railgun than another person but have a less advanced forcefield, or something similar.
This can be used as a sort of technological Scouter, a scavenging tool (see what's good to hijack, get it), a way to compile new data on your enemies, and so on.
