Rise of the United States
In RPG Project and Final Battle, the United States has become a technological superpower, home to technological innovations par excellence. But how did this happen? The ramifications of the rise of the United States are far-reaching, so the history is fitting to tell. My justification has numerous planks.
1. In the real world, the United States is the technological superpower. The level of technology the U.S. has is often surprising to people. A few examples: The United States has aircraft, such as the F-22, are the size of marbles on radar screens. The United States has a railgun mounted on a battleship and is working on an assault rifle version, ala Eraser. We were even working on a nuclear handgrenade that could destroy everything in a 750 foot radius! (The project was scrapped; the average foot soldier tosses 150 feet...) In addition, our ally, Israel, has 4 nuclear landmines around the Golan Heights. Clearly the level of technology possessed by us and our allies is not a far cry from that possessed in my RPGs.
2. Humanity has this tendency to expand it's technology given competition. In World War II, we went from vingtage WWI tanks to the nuclear bomb. In the Cold War, we went in with bombs dropped from bombers that could devastate a city. We came out with enough nuclear warheads, mounted on rockets that shoot up into space and back down, to destroy the planet 60 times over. Obviously, if the U.S. wanted to, we could put that same level of money into research to develop the sorts of things we talk about in FB. The need of the U.S. to defend against the new influx of mutants, psychics, magicians, aliens, and supersoldiers of various calibers leads to a desire to develop new weapons.
3. In my continuities, the United States did capture the alien ships at Roswell and other locations. This was helped in part by Mr. E. However, the rumored surgeries did not take place, as Mr. E also bailed out the alien survivors; I'll work on their stats later, but you can visit Sandstorm Haven and meet them. Because this happened during the Cold War, money was poured in. But people were suspicous, so money could not be too greatly funneled here. Fradulent accounts and dummy corporations were created to funnel money and resources into the alien study programs, but all the money made few breakthroughs. (Unbeknownst to anyone, part of the disruption was caused by Mr. E's insistent meddling.) At the end of the Cold War, the scientists were inches away from a breakthrough, but declassified government records and defections of top-level scientists shut down the project. However, the emergence of the events that lead to the development of the Final Battle world-anomaly gave the government the excuse to funnel large amounts of money into the projects. Further, brilliant scientists like I Should Slap You, Reed Richards, Tony Stark, etc. gave the project the last push it needed. This is the source of the Agent's teleporters, the Cryo's life-support systems, the energy blasters, and so on.
4. Simply enough, this is a few years after this time. The U.S. has had a few more years to develop some essential projects.
5. Finally, the establishment of MD Earth was good to the U.S. government. It could recruit the help of mutants and super-scientists of unprecedented genius. Numerous secret projects fell into their hands
