Cloud is the cold, aloof ex-member of SOLDIER who takes the reins as the main character of FF7. At first seemingly cold and uncaring, Cloud starts off in the game by working for Avalanche, the rebel group fighting the evil Shinra Inc. Of course, he claims to be doing this just for the money, saying that now that he is no longer a part of SOLDIER he will take any job that pays. Cloud is quite good at convincing people, including himself, that that's exactly who he is; a hired hand, to be weilded by the highest bidder. But certain people (Aeris & Tifa) quickly see through this show. Eventually Cloud does too.

Tifa is Cloud's childhood friend, who joined Avalanche to avenge her father. She is willfull and free-spirited, as well as strong and kind. Tifa is also quite solidly in love with Cloud. (But then again, very few women in this game aren't). Tifa is a bit of a contrast to CLoud. Whilst our mysterious main character remains deceptive and aloof, Tifa is a very forward and honest person, accept when it comes to matters of the heart. She is also a huge tomboy.

Loud, stubborn, and possessing a gun for one arm, Barret looks like the kind of guy you expect to see chasing after people with murderous intent in horror movies. And naturally, that's the impression he wants most people to get. However, in reality Barret's just a stubborn ball of mush. He's crazy about his little girl Marlene, and truly wants to save the planet from what Shinra is doing to it. This warm-fuzzy part of him does not, however, mean he is by any means a weak fighter. Maybe he wouldn't be the mass-murdere of nightmares, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be.
