The Mako Reactor had become a tomb. No signs of life stirred within. Shortly after Cloud collapsed unconsciously to the floor, Zangan had arrived in search of his student, Tifa. He eventually found the wounded girl in the core of the reactor where Cloud had left her. The old man had brought along a Cure Materia and used its magic on Tifa. It was a weak spell that only managed to make the child stir instead of completely recovering. Zangan realized he would have to act immediately if he were going to save her young life. He decided to rescue Tifa and leave Zack and Cloud behind. Zangan knew it was wrong and possibly selfish, but Tifa was dearer to him than the other two.
Outside he heard the whirling blades of an approaching helicopter. Across the side of the helicopter read: Shinra Inc. Zangan quickly ran off with Tifa in his arms. The old man never trusted Shinra, and the fact they were arriving after the massacre only meant to him they were up to something devious. Zangan wanted to get as far as possible from Shinra, and save Tifa.
As the copter landed, two Shinra Troopers exited the vehicle and entered the Mako Reactor. Professor Hojo was also present. He didn’t stray too far from the flying machine. He adjusted the wide brim glasses on his face with frustration. He hated being interrupted from his research, but when news had reached Midgar that Sephiroth had gone fanatical, the President of Shinra insisted that the professor go in and investigate the incident.
After a few moments, the Shinra Troopers returned to inform Hojo on the current situation.
“Well, don’t just stand there twiddling your thumbs. What did you find out?” Hojo demanded impatiently.
“We viewed the security video,” one of the troopers said.
“And?” Hojo bellowed.
“Sephiroth is dead.”
“Impossible!” Hojo cried in disbelief.
“He fell into the Life Stream. There’s no way of recovering the body.”
Hojo folded his arms, “How careless.”
“There are some survivors,” the trooper continued, “Two of them. An old man has taken the body of a young girl. Should we go after him?”
“In do time,” Hojo answered, “First we have wrap up what happened here. No one must know what occurred here. It would look dreadful for Shinra if the world found out what transpired here. As for the two inside the reactor, scrape them off the floor and bring them back to Shinra Mansion. I think I’ve found the perfect guinea pigs for the new Jenova Project.”
“What about the survivors in the town?” The trooper asked.
“Order some back up and kill them,” Hojo said with little to no remorse, “Its important we cover this up. Whatever happened here stays here.”
