The year is 2379. After a devastating war with the Dominion, Starfleet and the Federation hav begun to rebuild. An alliance has been forged with the Romulans, and while they have not joined the Federation, they are allowed in Starfleet. The Breen have been scattered after the Dominion lost, and Cardassia has also begun to rebuild. After the Cardassian government was taken over by Elim Garak, they forged an alliance with the Federation as well. Now the allied forces concentrated on defeating the Borg. With technology garnered by the crew of the Voyager and in particuliar, Anika Hansen, AKA 7 of 9, the Borg seemed a minor threat. Then the assassination of the Federation president and various heads of Starfleet happened. An unknown menace had attacked from within. Was it the founders again?, many wondered.
Admiral Derek McGuiness took command of Starfleet and temporarily the Federation, until two months later, when Chancellor Vor'Ken was named President. Vor'Ken, formally the Ambassador to Alpha Centauri, was the popular choice and has established a semblance of order to a chaotic Federation.
Now Vor'Ken and McGuiness are searching for answers. Thats where the Pathfinder enters the story. The crew's mission is to seek out possible threats to the Federation and expose or eradicate them.
McGuiness enlists the aid of a hotshot new Captain, James Garrison, and his first officer from a previous ship, A.J. Kostov, to command Pathfinder on it's mission. Their first addition to the command staff was Wing Commander Schultz, a pilot of unprecedented skill. Schultz heads the Fighter Squadron aboard Pathfinder.
