Stella has had a very lonely life. She was a gifted child and spent her childhood buried in intellectual study. Her parents thought they were helping her by pushing her. Eventually she was accepted into a highly regarded school devoted to the study of physics and related sciences on Vulcan. It was at this school that she met a young Roy Meek. He was younger than her by four years and she had very little interest. However, when she was assigned to him as a tutor she began to truly care for her. Roy was also a gifted scientist and intellectual, but Stella towered over him. She was the better with science, but he was more skilled in life. Unlike her he had aspirations beyond books and statistics. When they were married he took Stella with him on his adventure. With his advanced intellect he was easily admitted into Star Fleet Academy. Although military life was hard and different for both of them Roy graduated with honors. He was then stationed on DS10 for two years as Chief Eng. And later aboard the USS Geneva, it was here that he acquired a reputation as a great engineer. He was soon recalled to earth and offered a position at the academy teaching. He was one of the youngest men in history to become a full professor. Stella took a job with a leading civilian research company and excelled. Fifteen years later they had their first and only child--Justin.

Justin Meek

*Starfleet Academy*
Justin's parents were already the age of his peer's grandparents when he was born. His father and mother had became wealthy and gained the respect of virtually everyone in the scientific community. His mother pushed him toward science, hoping he would follow her lead, but because of his father's position he was practically raised at the academy. Although his mother tutored him at home his heart was in the stars from as early as he can remember. When he was accepted at the academy, for reasons even he did not totally understand, he chose to study Security and Tactical. His parents were furious, they had tutored him and worked with him for years and now he was throwing it away! Maybe he felt like he needed something that was just his, something he was better at then they were? In spite of all that he still ended up with as many classes in Engineering as someone studying to be an engineer. Because of his parents lessons he was able to test out of the first two years worth of Engineering classes offered at the academy. No one knew what make of him. Was he a tactical or an engineering officer? As a result he fit into neither group and was an outsider. After graduating he spent several months at the academy tutoring because they were short on qualified people.

*USS-Defender*
Justin’s excitement about joining the crew of a starship was short lived to say the least. He had not even had a chance to unpack his bag before he heard that a crewman had been torn limb from limb in some kind of sick murder. In the days a head he and the entire crew were terrorized by an invisible beast on board the ship. Justin was nearly killed by the thing before the ship even launched!!
After the beast had been dealt with Justin began to truly settle down into his new role as Chief Engineer. He had been a little disappointed when he was offered the CEO position. He had asked for the tactical officers job, but at the time the Defender was in greater need of an Engineer and he got the job. It took a while but he came to love his work and his crew. He started to treat the Defender like it was one of his children.
It was hard on Justin when an incident involving Dr. Stolovan, a research scientist, took him planet side for several days separated from his ship. The good doctor had found an old, yet very advanced, piece of technology that had driven him more than a little insane. Some of the Defender’s crew were actually eaten alive by the thing. Justin and his team were nearly killed by an angry computer. At this point Justin was separated from the normal chain of command and got his first real taste of what it means to be responsible for people lives. Justin lost some of his crew on during that mission and the experience has continues to stick with him.
By this point Justin had become a full Lieutenant and was comfortable with command. When the Defender was send to investigate a distress call in the Gamma quadrant Justin really got to test his engineering ability. The ship was nearly lost when the planet they were orbiting exploded and they were hit with the shockwave. It was all Justin and his team could do to keep the ship in one piece. As a result of the incident Starfleet investigated one of Justin’s engineering officers.
The one black mark Justin has on his record was put there during that investigation. The whole ship was under a lot of stress due to the questioning being done by the investigators. One night, after having too much to drink, Justin confronted one of the investigators in the mess hall. Justin ended up losing his temper and having to report himself to the Captain the next morning. Captain Aryn was more than generous and took it easy on Justin, but Justin has not had a drink since. He is determined never to allow himself to lose control of himself like that again. Justin has been privately practicing Vulcan meditation techniques ever since then. Justin has managed to gain the respect of his engineers and crewmates. He looks up to his commander and looks forward to the challenges ahead.
