Personal History:

David Johnson is a natural engineer. He entered Starfleet young and
breezed through training with an outstanding proficiency in Engineering
and applied skills. Taking after his father, Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Polaris, who had since retired to a position in Starfleet Sciences, living on earth with a Wife, and Johnson's young sister. Johnson's sister adores him, but his father feels that he should have gone for a command position than following a course in Engineer.
During Johnson's young life, he was always intrigued with machines.
He was reprimanded at the age of five for dismantling the family replicator, nearly destroying the house with a plasma conduit. At the age of 10, Johnson improvised a generator for a school project that powered a sensor drone that was later used by his school to study wildlife in an atrium.
As a rookie cadet on advanced missions, Johnson served aboard a training vessel that studied several rogue asteroids in sector G-17, known for it's heavy wormhole activities. While on it's return voyage the ship was struck by an asteroid and lost power, sending the ship towards a black hole. Using the shield generators in a layered effect by crosspolarizing the primary and secondary generators, and using a phaser and some deutronium bracers to weld a coupler for a power line to restore engines, the ship narrowly averted disaster.
After this point, Johnson continued to heavily devoting himself to
The engineering school, working to repair shuttles that were damaged while not in class. School was a lonely life, however, for him. Working hard at his studies, Johnson turned away all but the closest friends, and spent little time with any females, despite many signs of interest. One teacher likened him to Captain Montgomery Scott, who always maintained a greater love for his engines than any female, and nicknamed Johnson "Scotty".
Romance didn't completely elude Johnson; he fell in love with a woman with a knack for engineering as well. They remained together
Throughout the academy, and continue to spend time together when they aren't separated by varied assignments.

Graduating with honors and a commendation for bravery, He took was posted as an ensign aboard an Intrepid Starship as third engineer. When rogue Marquee fighters in a raid attacked the ship, the chief and second engineer being wounded and unable to return to duty, He took over and aided in the successful rescue of the colonists, using a high-field, low-yield wide-band radiation dispersion to highlight the inhabitants for transporter sensors.
After the ship returned to space dock an Admiral heading up a new project to develop new technologies, posted Johnson aboard the Engineering team, which developed many technological advances for an as-yet classified project working with Transwarp Conduits and advanced weapons systems. Once completed, the ship was fit with a crew and is still undergoing testing. Johnson requested to be released from the project to return to active duty, and is currently awaiting reassignment. Due to the nature of the project, the secrecy, and the group affiliated with it, Johnson's record shows only that he served aboard an experimental vessel, and he was not promoted.
He continues to study and develop advanced design theories as a hobby, and correlates them with the chief engineer aboard the U.S.S. Paladin.
