SESSION 11
No orcs seemed to be coming at the gate. Agatsu hopped off the roof of the stable and yelled; "Let's get a couple wagons to block off the gate!" A couple guards went with him to get a the wagons. They hauled out two carts and positioned them on their sides to stop the orcs from hitting a big area. This created a small area for the orcs to funnel into, Instead of an 80' wide area, they only had 20.
Anson piped up and grabbed Talgor and Arik. "Let's go check the other possible points of entry into the city to see if they are secure. Denal, come with me. Arik, you and Talgor take the Marketplace, we'll go to the docks." With that, the four rushed off.
The guards were pushing the last cart into position when they noticed one single orc staring at them. They got back inside and peered out. This orc did not look like the rest. He looked dressed in some sort of robes. Possibly an orc mage they were hearing about. The guards fired arrows at the orc, unfortunately, they seemed to fall to the ground several feet in front of him.
Halco, the mage, stepped around one of the guards. He yelled, "NOW! Fire again!!" and cast a spell. The orc mage looked shocked as his shield came down. His expression stayed for only a moment as the arrows pierced his body and he slumped to the ground.
The orcs that were well behind him rushed in, yelling war cries. Ogres rushed in behind the orcs. The guards stood their ground as Halco dropped another spell. This one, a Ring of Fire, he dropped near the opening. He did not get it far enough away, and the wagons were caught by it. The orcs drove around the wall of fire trying to get at the opening. Druegarr, the Dwarf Caver, came charging down the road. He was yelling a war cry as he leapt up, trying to clear the wagon. He only got up about 3 feet before crashing into the wagon, causing it to fall back onto it's wheels.
An Orc jumped up onto the wagon and attacked him. He rolled out of the way as best as possible. Another orc climbed up onto the wagon. Two guards also came aboard. Druegarr jumped to his feet and swung at an orc. He took it off it's feet and off the cart.
Agatsu climbed the ladder to get to the wall. He looked about for a target, and seeing several, he loaded his crossbow. He let a bolt fly at the nearest Ogre. THUNK! The ogre reeled back and howled. It turned on Agatsu and moved to the wall. The Ogre reached up and grabbed onto the ledge of the wall and tried to hoist himself up. Agatsu swung out with a foot sweep, but missed as the ogre fell back down. One of the ogres kin also tried to get up on the wall. It hoisted itself up and peered over the top. Only to see the female mage Cyianna staring at him. She loosed a magic missile into the ogres face and the creature fell to the ground howling.
Cyrian brought up his bow and fired a round into the orcs hoping to bring them down. He notched another arrow when he saw the circle of flames disappear. Total darkness surrounded the flames, effectively blanking them out. An orc mage stood smiling at his accomplishment. Gamaliel cast a spell to bring forth two dogs for his command. He made them appear outside the gate and commanded them to attack the orc mages.
Halco, not being able to do much from his position, moved to get up on the wall. He climbed the wall only to see the ogres climbing the wall trying to get up on it. Two guards were effectively keeping the ogres from getting up on top. Agatsu, on the other side of the gate, loaded another bolt. Scanning for a new target, he saw two orc shaman heading towards the battle. One started to gesture, and Agatsu fired at it. The Orc clutched his throat and fell dying. The other one hoisted a rock and flung it at Agatsu. The rock hit a guard that was next to Agatsu.
Druegarr swung at the orc on the wagon. He missed, only because he saw an Ogre lumber up to the wagon and jump up. The ogre landed on the wagon and crushed it. The wheels broke and the thing came crashing to the ground. Druegarr looked up at the ogre and smiled. "Now you've done it. You shouldn't do that!" He drove his dwarven axe into the side of the ogre. Howling in pain, the Ogre brought his club down on Druegarr. He tumbled backward from the ferocity of the hit and fell off the cart. "He clutched his side and he gasped for air. Wheezing, he said; "Oh yea.. [cough] Now ya gone and pissed me off. [cough] Just let [cough] me catch [cough] my breath..." Druegarr tried to stand but could not, the pain was too much. Blood soaked his left side and he coughed up a bit of blood.
Agatsu loaded another round and took aim. He fired and hit the ogre that took Druegarr down. The ogre fell into the fire. He started to load another bolt when he heard commotion behind him. He turned and saw two heads lumbering along the wall. Agatsu quickly moved away from the walls edge. He cried out: "Look out!" The guard heard Agatsu's cry and turned. Only to see a big hand come at him. The Ettin scooped the guard off the wall and dropped him at his feet. Then he brought down his other club and crushed the guard. The female mage Cyianna dropped a fireball on the Ettin, engulfing the orcs that she did not even see that were with him. 7 orcs died in that blazing fireball.
Cyrian continued his fire on the orcs on his side of the darkness. He noticed an Ogre trying to bring down the rest of the gate. As the ogre broke through, Cyrian concentrated his fire on the new hole and the ogre that filled it. Gamaliel saw a new bunch of orcs coming at the new hole and dropped an entangle spell on the grassed they ran across. Now having a life of their own, they sprung up and entwined around the orcs legs. The orcs hacked and hammered at the grasses trying to get free.
An arrow pierced the orc mage's head and he fell, but not before taking out one of the dogs. The other orc mage kicked relentlessly at the dog trying to get it to go away. Gamaliel Picked up a bunch of rocks and started using his sling, chucking rocks into the fray.
The guard clambered back onto his feet trying to fend off the ettin that had just wholloped him. He could not block the blows as they came in. One club hit the guy and broke his arm. the other imbedded him into the wall of the gate. Cyianna cast a grease spell on the edge of the wall to stop the ettin from getting up top. Agatsu loaded another crossbow bolt and took aim at the ettin. As he sighted, he saw the darkness globe disappear, and the flame wall was also gone. He took aim at the ettin and fired. The ettin howled and turned at Agatsu. The orc shaman moved over to the ettin and cast a spell. The ettin looked a lot healthier.
Cyrian started picking off targets held by the entangle spell. Gamaliel also did the same. The orcs tried in vain to move through the spell's effects. Cyrian took aim at an orc when suddenly, the spell came down. The orc stumbled and Cyrian's arrow hit the spot where the orc was standing.
Druegarr stood, clutching his side. He noticed the guards were attempting to take the Ettin and the ogres down. Just then, he heard footsteps behind him. turning he saw the clerics coming down the road. "Alright! You've come to help us. I could use a bit of healing here if you don't mind."
The lead cleric just looked at him and continued to walk past. Druegarr piped up; "But I helped two of your own try to win."
The lead cleric turned and looked at Druegarr. "Yes, you did." He turned back and continued to the gate. The other 4 clerics marched right past Druegarr, following their leader. Walking nonchalontly into the battle, the clerics started to cast spells. Columns of flame erupted from the sky, felling many of the monsters, including the Ettin. They cast another spell and walled up the gate.
The lead cleric, finishing up his Wall of Stone spell said, "The gate is now closed." He turned and looked for the leader. Lieutenant, who's in charge here?"
The Lt. came up to the cleric. "Anson has been very helpful in solidifying defenses. You should talk to him."
The cleric turned to walk away when Druegarr came up to him. "You know, I did help out. I've done good, but could really use some help right about now."
The cleric looked at him. "Yes, you do."
Druegarr looked at the cleric as he started to walk away, yet again. "Look, I *really* need some healing."
The cleric spun around. "We do not heal. If you wish, we can cure you of your ailment and have you visit Hextor. If you wish to live, see the local healer"
Druegarr was taken aback by the words and stood there staring at the clerics as they walked away from the gate...
