| 3/4/01
| Paúl gets kicked out of the orphanage for accidently beating a guy unconcious. He runs in to Saladin who will not reveal his name. They fight. Paúl goes to tavern to heal. Saladin follows, accussing Paúl of sacrilige and murder. Vincent, his first job as a hired guard completed, enters the tavern. He fails to mediate, and Saladin attacks Paúl with a dagger. Vincent carries Paúl out back to safety with Saladin chasing after. They encounter muggers in the alley. Vincent attacks well, but can not defeat all 3 muggers on his own. Saladin and Paúl, rather than assist, attack eachother. Eventually, Vincent and Paúl run, and Saladin convinces the muggers to chase after Paúl.
| I need to be more authoritative. They need more teamwork. I can't believe they turned my plans into a cliche' tavern-fight-meeting. I'm so ashamed |
Out Of Game Story Teller Note
|
3/01 | I posted something on the WW message board about my players not co-operating despite my encouragement of team work and got some very good replies. | Making the players read the thread pretty much got the point across. Saladin & Paúl may not agree, but they have refrained from stabbing eachother. |
| 3/5/01
| Paúl and Vincent duck down into a dark alley. Saladin and the ruffians get drunk at the tavern. Paúl joins them and a truce is declared. Saladin gets a room at an inn because he's too drunk to find his way home. Vincent is hired to kill the guy in the room next to Saladin, and does so. Saladin overhears and steps into the hallway.
| I need to be less cliche' and more focused. I'd like them to be more serious. |
| 3/10/01
| The players finish up the previous night's events at the inn. They get a new job working for some people in a big building, feeling oddly compelled to accept the positions offered. They meet Marianne, another "employee" and, while collecting some stolen art, she reveals to them that their employers, and their rivals, have "some sort of powers". Aparently, she's benifited from some of these powers too. The characters negotiate their compensation and enjoy a night of drunken fun. | I'm tryng to build suspense, draw them in the story. They're still running around and hitting things. |
| 3/31/01 (the car ride up to the mountain)
| The characters are approached by a knight with an offer to do some spying on their employers, he offers them something new - an explanation. They do some flunkie work for "the boss" and his assistants. The knight gives them a basic explanation based on the existance of vamps, and offers them the chance to become vamps. They take one last day to see the sun and get some food before accepting. | I don't think they care about the story. I'm not sure if their personalities prevent that or if I just haven't built up any story-telling skills yet. |
| 3/31/01 (on the mountain, at night in the foggy forest cemetary)
| This was when the players first learned that they will be alternating playing vamp characters & werewolf characters, in the same area, at the same time, with the same enemies. The wolves are accepted into their tribes etc... and are asked to go check out the possiblility of wyrm taint in the church (the institution not the building). The characters almost do so, but instead argue amongst eachother and get pelted by flaming arrows. Stop drop and roll. | I really think they enjoy just running around hitting eachother. I've got to focus more on my side of the story so even if it is just and action game it will have an interesting backdrop. |
Out Of Character Session
|
5/1/01 | I just reminded them of the personalities of the characters they are playing (Less Punch and Judy, more emotional depth) and the general mood we are working toward ("Less Saturday Night Live, more Xenogears"). | I honestly think I'm not going to bother forcing them to play in a different style that what they want, anymore. If they're havinmg fun, fine. I should learn how to have fun with a more rambunctious game too. If I were less uptight about this story being perfect, I'm sure It would be better. |
| early May 2001
| The mortal characters meet their sires, transform, hear the rules, have their mission explained etc... Saladin & his sire, Rombert, get along well. Paúl and Saladin fight, fortunately, Paúl's toes will grow back. Paúl pisses off Sir Richard, but Marianne is willing to tote around the bloody topored pulp that was once Paul's body. Saladin feeds Marianne some blood to begin a blood bond, after Rombert explaines that her being a ghoul of the people they are meant to spying on makes her loyalty suspect. Saladin, unable to bring himself to kill innocent humans, kills some sheep and blames it on demons. | Now that I'm more relaxed, this is a lot more fun. |
| later that week
| The wolves, after failing to begin their real mission, are sent to a dark cave to find a stupid, home-brewed fetish (the sceptar of barracuda, place the net in any water and it will come out with a fish in it). | I literally turned off the lights and had them wander around the apartment looking for the fishbowl net I had hidden. |
| 7/13/01
| Saladin deals w/ Marianne and Vincent goes to find some support after his Sire encourages him to topple the Toreador's power. He gains some ghouled thugs and the support of Jhon and Violet, the local Cappadocians. Violet contacts a local Nosferatu and discovers that the prince and his cohorts have been encouraging the church to search for supernaturals in hopes that the church will destroy their rivals. They attempt to confront the prince but Veronica, a Lasombra often seen at court, quickly dominates them out the door. They sneak in and speak to the Prince who denies any such actions. | Calvin couldn't make it, but I got my brother to join. We had to stop playing mid-scene because the silliness was just too out of hand. |
