Timeline of the City of Greenswabs
Being a listing of the known history of the great city of Greenswabs through the years, from it's founding as a City State of the World Emperor to it's present.
Year (YE) | |
Future site of what will become the City of Greenswabs is the location of the Black Citadel of the Sorcerer King Lagner-Mazar | |
-25 | The Black Citadel of Lagner-Mazar is destroyed by the forces of Good in their war against the Sorcerer Kings. A small village springs up at this site and is used as the staging area for the forces of Goods assault on the final Sorcerer Kings in the Valley of the Ancients. |
0-51 | The last of the Sorcerer Kings is defeated in the Valley of the Ancients, the Mistwall turns black as the last of the Sorcerer Kings is defeated. The forces of Good depart leaving behind a thriving small community. This original community is formed from the "hanger-ons" and those that either supplied the army or those that mustered out after the final battles. |
51 | Official founding of Greenswabs as a City State of the World Empire by Zaphod the Mighty. Construction of the giant statue of Zaphod the Mighty. |
51 - 1070 | The "Years of Empire" as Greenswabs prospers under the control of the World Emperor. Considered by many to be the finest years in Greenswabs history. The City State becomes the center of learning and culture in the northeast, outshining even the City State of Tarantis to the south with it's artisans and sages. |
1071-1075 | First of the Great Slave Raids by the Dark Elves levels the city. Most of the human population is taken as prisoners by the Dark Elves. |
1075 | The City of Greenswabs is rebuilt by the World Empire. The city never reaches it's former glory as much of the money that should have went to it's rebuilding is squandered by it's Padasha. |
1075-1103 | The Padasha Rinaldo the Dweeb, rules the City in the World Emperors name. At the end, he is crippled by syphilis and dies insane. He is not replaced by the World Emperor and control slips away from the distant power far to the west to one closer to home. |
1103-1138 | Jocko Homo declares himself "World Emperor of the East" and seizes control of the city. This starts what was known as the reign of the "False Emperor's". |
1138-1163 | Jocko Homo II succeeds his father as "World Emperor of the East" |
1163-1181 | Mud-Butt, a distant cousin of Jock Homo II, succeeds the throne of the "Empire" |
1181-1189 | Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan Elf, originally an advisor to the Emperor Mud-Butt, becomes Emperor when Mud-Butt, and his entire family, is found accidentally eaten alive by Dire Weasels. Greenswabs becomes a haven for pirates. |
1189-1264 | Muammar Gaddafi is killed when a pirate fleet lead by Captain Maggot Murdoch invades Greenswabs. Greenswabs is proclaimed a "free port" and is ruled by a Captains Council of notorious pirates. What follows is 75 years of piracy, where ships based in Greenswabs preyed on shipping in the Winedark Sea. |
1264 | A fleet of ships, loaded with marines, from the City State of the Invincible Overlord attack Greenswabs to end the piracy that has been centered on this city. Most of the pirates managed to escape, fleeing to islands in the south and to the City State of Tarantis, taking much of their wealth with them. |
1264-1328 | Greenswabs becomes a "protectorate" of the Invincible Overlord. Loosely and poorly run by a succession of appointed bureaucrats. |
1328-1350 | An Goblin horde from the Ododharaun Mountains invades Greenswabs and burns it to the ground. The Goblin horde stay living in the ruins for over 20 years. |
1350-1456 | A Elven cleric of Istus, known only as "The Word", leads a band of humans in the retaking of Greenswabs from the Goblins. "The Word" rebuilds the city and remains its ruler for over 100 years until he is killed by a foul sorcerer known as Bothagarble the Mind Lord. |
1456-1507 | Bothagarble the Mind Lord seizes power. Rules Greenswabs with the help of Mind Flayer minions. His evil reign lasts for almost 50 years. |
1507-1511 | Bothagarble is brought down and his minions routed by adventurers. Start of the "Warlord Years" (also known as the Assassin Years) as Alorik the First is proclaimed the first "Warlord of Greenswabs". |
1511-1515 | The Warlord Alorik the First is found poisoned, Elsa the Half-a-Elf proclaims herself Warlord |
1515-1516 | Elsa the Half-a-Elf is found dead, Newton Defoe proclaimed Warlord |
1516 | The Warlord Newton Defoe is assassinated, Jareel Takis, cleric of Hextor proclaimed Warlord |
1516-1517 | Jareel Takis is assassinated, the wizard Hortensia proclaims herself Warlord |
1517-1520 | The wizard Hortensia is assassinated, El Gordo proclaimed Warlord |
1520-1521 | The Warlord El Gordo is assassinated. This is followed by the Warlords Rudd-Putt, Frothmoore, and Prospero, all of whom are assassinated in the same year. |
1521-1531 | The Warlord Raymos (known as Deathwish II) proclaimed Maximum Ruler, brings 10 years of peace, mainly by slaying any rival warlord who becomes powerful. |
1531 | The Warlord Raymos is finally assassinated by the strange wizard known only as Mr. Bufu |
1531-1540 | Hordes of Orcs from the mountains to the west known as the Orclands, descend on Greenswabs in the confusion after Mr. Bufu takes power.. They attack and loot the town, burning it almost to the ground. |
1540-1605 | Greenswabs is rebuilt once again and flourishes under the benevolent rule of a monk know only as Zinethar the Wise. |
1605-1687 | Zinethar is found dead from unknown causes and a coup results in Greenswabs being controlled for the next 80 years by the evil Adventurer Samurai Penguin and later his son Samurai Penguin II |
1687-1735 | Samurai Penguin II is defeated by the two adventurers Larry the Elf and Honi (curiously Larry was female and Honi was male). After defeating Samurai Penguin II they take off adventuring under the Mistwall and are never heard of again. Greenswabs pretty much descends into anarchy for almost 50 years. |
1735-1748 | A Goblin hoard, lead by a demon, attacks Greenswabs. The demon, a Balor called Ogsthhhrelkted, sets up a reign of terror as he rules Greenswabs with the Goblins and summoned creatures. Most of the people who are not sacrificed to Ogsthhhrelkted leave the city. |
1748-1775 | Ogsthhhrelkted is defeated by an all female band of adventurers named Elsbeth, Meridith, Natasha, Renia, and Lola. They try to create an all-female Amazon society in Greenswabs. This experiment lasts for close to 30 years. |
1775-1812 | An all male band of adventurers attacks Greenswabs with the purpose of putting an end to the Amazon rule. This band comprised of the adventurers Conax the Chimerical, Pigot the Elf, Kegan, Wong-Ding, Zuit, and Defenceo Lord of Turdom tried sacking the city but were defeated by the Amazons. Unfortunately this also broke the power of the Amazons and those few left were harried from the city by the citizens. Greenswabs becomes a lawless anarchy, controlled by crime bosses, slavers and pirates. |
1812-1857 | The arrival of the strangely charismatic cleric of a deity called "Zeus" named Evangelo, signals the start of what has been called the "Godly Years" as a succession of strange clerics, worshipping even stranger Powers, fought and ruled over portions of Greenswabs. Oddly enough these battles left the City pretty much unharmed, at least physically. A partial roster of those who either ruled or claimed to rule during these times is; Thern More, cleric of an unknown Power; Lysander, another cleric of an unknown Power; Kala, a cleric that also claimed to be a "Jedi Master" and possessed strange powers of the mind; Gnat, a small human who claimed superhuman strength; and finally the cleric Klassen whose band of worshippers finally managed to take control of the City and drive out the other "Unbelievers". Since Klassen never revealed what Power he worshipped this pretty much meant anyone he didnt like. Klassen ruled Greenswabs with an iron hand for the next 20 years. |
1857-1863 | A vast invasion of Orcs, sweeps down the coastline from the Orclands. This Orcish Horde reach all the way to Tarantis before they are finally stopped. Unfortunately Greenswabs was sacked and burnt to the ground as they passed through. |
1863-1923 | The "Unhallowed Years". During these 60 years Greenswabs lies uninhabited except for the occasional monster or looter. The only real trace of the city was half sunken foundations, rotted docks, and of course, the Statue of Zaphod the Mighty, which overlooked the ruins. |
1923-1958 | Greenswabs once again is rebuilt as the wizard Istari Ben-Esse founds what he calls "New Greenswabs". Driving out the monster inhabitants he rebuilds the City with the intention of making it a completely walled city once again. He builds the current Palace and starts constructing walls (which are never finished). His reign was fairly long and mostly uneventful. |
1958-2018 | Istari Ben-Esse is succeeded (without violence!) by the warrior Eric Von Death, who rules the City with patience and concern for the people. |
2018-2078 | The "Years of Death", Greenswabs is ruled by the descendents of Eric Von Death, the "Little Deaths". This was a fairly peaceful time and Greenswabs prospered. |
2078 | Second of the Great Slave Raids, Greenswabs only saved from total destruction by the heroic acts of Wenster McCabe. |
2078-2418 | Continuation of the "Years of Death" as Greenswabs prospers under the benevolent rule of the "Little Deaths". This period is generally regarded as the last "Golden Age" of Greenswabs with the City approaching a greatness not seen since the days of World Emperor. |
2418 | The "Night of a Thousand Deaths", so called because assassins, in a single night, managed to kill the entire family line founded by Eric Von Death. Every son and cousin, every aunt and sister, all with any relation to the Von Death family were found murdered. The attack was well coordinated as family members and relations in both the CSIO and Tarantis were also murdered in the same night. No one knows who, or why the assassins struck, but in a single night hundreds of people were murdered and hundreds more never seen again. In all the years following the "Night of a Thousand Deaths" no person or organization has claimed responsibility for the act. |
2418 - 2495 | The seventy five years following the "Night of a Thousand Deaths" were ones of confusion as Greenswabs descended into anarchy once again. The city is controlled by gangs of crimelords and petty warlords. |
2495-2580 | The "Rule of the Pirates". Greenswabs is taken over and controlled once again by a coalition of pirate captains who set up a committee government. They use Greenswabs as a base and begin a campaign of piracy along the shores of the Winedark Sea. |
2580 | Third of the Great Slave Raids, Greenswabs is curiously untouched |
2580-2650 | The "Rule of the Pirates" continues until a War Fleet from the CSIO arrives and War Wizards and Marines from the City State enter Greenswabs and loot, kill, and dismember anyone suspected of either being a pirate or even knowing a pirate. Needless to say a lot of people died. |
2650-2680 | Greenswabs is ruled (loosely) by a Governor appointed by the Invincible Overlord. The Governor uses his position to basically loot the city and sends the goods, slaves, and gold back to the City State of the Invincible Overlord. |
2680-2735 | Greenswabs conquered by an army of Lizardmen lead by Sakatha the Great Lizard King. He enslaves the human population of Greenswabs and rules the city. |
2735 | Sakatha is finally driven back to the Dark Crag Marsh and his lizard man army destroyed. |
2740-2880 | Greenswabs is rebuilt, primarily financed by merchant guilds from the CSIO and Tarantis. This begins the "Rule of the Guilds". Merchants and Guilds hold an iron grip on the City of Greenswabs |
2880-3080 | "Revolt of the People" puts into place rule by the "Will of the People", rioting destroys most of the wooden building in Greenswabs. First "elections" of a Governor and Council take place in Greenswabs. For the last 200 years this odd style of government has seemed to work well and has been the longest reign of prosperity since the "Years of Death". |
3080 | Current Year |
