The Ruling River

    This large, wide fast flowing river is navigable from the bay of Kantaroon on the Winedark Sea, all the way north to the Orclands and it's headwaters in the Shielding Mountains. One branch ends at the Shielding Mountains and one branch ends at the village of Klest. Like the River of the Ancients (the other large river in the area), the banks of the Ruling River are actually solid rocky ledges making it hard for any kind of dock or harbor. At places the Ruling River is almost a mile wide. There are no fordable areas for the entire length of the Ruling River.

    There are only two towns with docks on the Ruling River and both of these are at the headwaters of the river (Neang-Kazar and Tarsh). The one exception is the castle where the Werekat River enters the Ruling River. It is located on a large rocky island in the middle of the river and controls all traffic going past it. Most other boat traffic enters and leaves the Ruling River from numerous small "side" rivers.
