Carlito, always on the move.

The young man now known only as Carlito always felt out of place with his family. He was an amalgam of Black, Italian, and Native American, so the term identity crisis was an understatement for him.  The Italian side of his family had forsaken him for not being pure, and the members of the other side of his family were jealous of his eurocentric features, so he never got along with any of them.  He spent a lot of time on the streets and was always fascinated by street life.  He eventually dropped out of high school and ran away from home.  No, he just left home; no one bothered to stop him.  He and a couple of friends made a small living as stick-up kids, living on the streets, parks/playgrounds,  or in motels when they could afford to.  They eventually gained the attention of a fencer named Ghost, and worked for him as part time hired help/enforcers.

One day, a routine fencing deal had gone very, very bad.  A small clique with relatives in the mob tried to rip off Ghost and Ghost sent Carlito's clique after them.  Only Carlito survived the encounter.  Carlito was never a fan of Italian mobsters as is due to their classic racism.  With balls of steel, he decided to wage a one man war against the mob.  Two mobsters died, and they roughed up Ghost in an attempt to catch Carlito.  Carlito, who's life expectancy had now dwindled to about 15 minutes, randomly caught the eye of Sandy Barton.  She watched him miraculously cheat death and dismemberment for about a week, and being impressed she embraced him to even the odds.  She told him, "They were going to kill you anyway, so I took your life.  But I've given you a second chance.  Let's see what you can do with it."  Then she left and he wouldn't see her again for about a year.

Carlito adapted to unlife rather well all things considered.  He made some contacts, mostly Caitiff.  He developed a hatred of the Giovanni, who appeared to run all aspects of organized crime, and swore to rid Baltimore of this pestilent clan.  The Caitiff, along with the Outriders' Thomas Harris and Carlito, came up with a scheme that Caitiff all over were begining to initiate to agitate kindred ecology: weaken the Masquerade.  He revealed his
little secret to Ghost and Ghost's associate, Jim Scolaro.  Jim is a small time drug dealer and loansharker that worked for Nicola Pastore.  The Caitiff and Carlito provided proof that the Giovanni were evil, perverted vampires that commited vile atrocities in the name of the Catholic church.
