Meaning of Name:
We often take a rainbow for granted, that it will always be there. In its beauty, one might marvel at it, and quickly think no more of it. The rainbow being black would symbolize the absence of it, something that we had never thought of losing, gone.
Background Information: Neo and Carbon live in a town named Ecco, where every aspect of life is controlled. You are assigned cores, which are like jobs or castes. You don't have families but parental units, there is no color, no music, no sounds, no emotions. Things we take for granted, gone.
You start off in the boss battle, where you are killed. But as you are flying back from the final blow, you stop in mid-air, and a message appears:
They say that just before death,
your life flashes before your eyes.
A chance to change the past,
right the wrongs, correct the mistakes.
The screen fades to black and you start in the beginning of the game. You arrive at the housing unit 174, and the captain assigns Carbon to check the interior for civilians. The Captain assigns Neo to put out flames on the housing unit.
(Enter a firefighting mini-game)
When the flames are extinguished, Neo asks the captain if he smells something. The captain says yeah, and you then hear a gas leak, and the housing unit explodes, rendering Neo and the Captain lifeless. From there, you awake in your bed to the fire alarm, with Carbon at the doorway, telling you that there is a fire at the housing unit 174. You get up, and drive to the housing unit. From there, the Captain assigns Carbon to check the interior for civilians. The Captain assigns Neo to put out flames on the housing unit. Neo then realizes that this is exactly how it happened in his dream. The rushes into the housing unit, telling the Captain as he goes in that he needs to save Carbon.
You then have a set amount of time to find Carbon. When you do, you jet out of the housing unit, and just as you do, the housing unit explodes. As Neo, Carbon, and the Captain come to from the shock of the near death experience, the Captain asks Neo how he knew? Neo doesn't respond. They go back to the Fire Station, and Neo and Carbon have a talk about how Carbon owes his life to Neo for saving his. Then they get a good night sleep, and in the morning, Neo goes and checks the mail, and gets a letter:
Neo and Carbon:
You have been assigned to attend a meeting of the council, it is imperative that you two attend.
The Council.
(The Council is a core of members 40+, who run Ecco, and control all aspects of the town, and its citizens.)
When Neo and Carbon appear at the meeting, they think that Neo is getting an award for saving Carbon. When they arrive, and talk to the Council, they are tranqualized and exiled for the murder of the citizens of the members of housing unit 174. Outside of town, the world is much as it is now. Outside, there is color, and sound, and music. The game is about Neo's stuggle to cope with what he has been deprived of, his life.
