The Land Of Indoran
Indoran is a far-away land populated by the main race, called Indorani, elves, dragons, humans, and funny little creatures called elflings, with the occasional unicorn and phoenix. It is mostly an plains country, with one mountain range running the full length of the country north to south, called the Eracho Niradan or White Mountains, and two forests, the Kalano Feralee or Wild Forest, on the western side of the mountains and the Kalano Larintal, or Song Forest, on the eastern side. It has an ocean on the western border, called Linah Diovoch, or Midnight Sea. It is ruled by the Princess Brennan Halcyon, daughter of the late King Keiran and Queen Deraiel. There are seven major cities: Kaleo, Collin, Tahma, Ciarron, Firin, Pental, and Fedor. Pental, Kaleo, and Firin are located on the coast, all three port cities and going in that order from morth to south. Collin is located at Collinar Seilva, or River's Meeting, where The River Fantach and the River Crayla intersect. Tahma is in a stretch of land between the two rivers. Fedor is located on the other side of the mountains, at the easternmost end of the Forest Larintal, and Ciarron is located just on the eastern side of the mountains, where the Mountains and the Forest meet.
The Indorani
The Indorani are shapeshifters. Every family in the land has its own shape that it can use. The most common is the wolf-shape, which is often mistaken for were-wolves in other countries. If a young man of one shape, like Wolf, and a girl of a different shape, like Eagle, marry and have children, the children receive one shape, or the other. In some cases, a union of two shapes produces a child that can use both shapes. These children, called Indonar, which means Shape-Joined, are very rare and are some of the most powerful magic users in the country. The parents of an Indonar try to keep it a secret, as these children are considered outcast or evil.
Each main city has it’s own ruling family. The members of the ruling family can be recognized in human and animal-form by their eyes, which are an unusually bright turquoise color, and in their animal form by a fire-red marking somewhere on their bodies. It can be small as a spot, or as large as a stripe.
Each ruling family has one of the forms.
At the capital city of Kaleo, the ruling family’s shape is an wolf, at the city of Collin it is the otter, at the city of Ciarron it is the eagle, at the city of Tahma it is the horse, at the city of Firin it is the dolphin, at the city of Pental it is the seal, and at the city of Fedor, it is the deer.
The people of Indoran all have a small innate magical ability such as small enchantments to make a toy dance on its own or turn small objects invisible, but the Indonar can become full mages or sorcerers and can summon creatures such as dragons, or griffins. When casting spells, they use their own language, but they are taught the Commonspeech, or Fanakhor, as they call it. However, one form of magic does not require verbal spells. This is known as Lachanas, which can be translated as 'Color-light', and is very difficult to master in any of its forms. These range throughout the spectrum and include white, blue, red, violet, green, brown, orange, yellow, gold, silver, and black. Black is usually referred to as spirit-magic and outlawed throughout Indoran, yet still one can find a person here or there who practices it. The two most difficult to master, however, are Gold and Silver, the High Colors. Usually chosen by rulers, these are also the only two that can both be learned by one person safely. One can tell a master of Lachanas by their eyes, regardless of station, for when one has mastered a form one's eyes take on the color of their form in a translucent sheen.
