Background:

Life before your Mutation:
Storm is the descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses, all of whom have white hair, blue eyes, and the potential to wield magic. Her mother, N'Dare, was the princess of a tribe in Kenya. She married the American photojournalist David Monroe and moved with him to Manhattan. There, she gave birth to a baby girl who she named Ororo, which means beauty.

When Ororo was six months old, David was given an assignment to report of the war occurring within the Middle-East. The family moved to Cairo, Egypt, and lived in a small home.

Five years later, a fighter plane crippled in an attack crashed into the Monroe home. Ororo was buried alive beneath the broken walls and the remains of her mother, who had tried to shield her daughter in an effort to save her life. This traumatized Ororo so badly that she suffers from claustrophobia.

Homeless and orphaned, Ororo wandered the streets, trying to survive. She encountered a band of thieves who took her to their master, Achmed el-Gibar. He took her into his tutelage, instructing his new prized pupil in every skill he knew. Through this training, she became the most accomplished sneak thief, pick-pocket, and lock picker in Cairo.

During this time, she stole a wallet from a bald, white man, who used his mental abilities to follow Ororo and retrieve his possession; who, unbeknownst to her, was Professor Charles Xavier.

Discovering your Power:
At the age of twelve, Ororo felt a strong inner need to go south, to her roots. She spent a year travelling by foot from Cairo across the Sahara Desert until she reached the home of her ancestors, the Serengeti Plain (which lies in both Kenya and Tanzania).

Settling in an area near Mount Kilimanjaro, her mutant power to control the weather manifested. She used this power to help several local tribes; who in return worshipped her as a goddess. In helping these tribes, Ororo developed her sense of responsibility to use her abilities for the benefit of others.
How you came to Xavier's School:
After spending several years in the role of "goddess", Ororo had an empty space in her life which she felt was necessary to fill. When Professor Charles Xavier visited Africa again, he persuaded her to go to America with him where her powers could be used to benefit the whole of humanity. She agreed, joining the X-Men and taking on the code name of Storm.

Back History:
When she joined the X-Men, Storm quickly became close friends with the only other female on the team . . . Marvel Girl, also known as Jean Grey. In the process, she also became morecomfortable around Wolverine, who was not in good standing in the eyes of most of the team.

During the mission to rescue Wolverine from Alpha Flight, Storm was forced to calm an entire blizzard before it caused incredible environmental and property damage. This stretched Storm's limits, allowing her to later take control of similar weather systems.

When the X-Men confronted the Morlocks, Storm had to battle their leader, Callisto, to save the X-Men. Storm defeated Callisto, winning the position of leadership among the Morlocks, but her loyalty remained with the X-Men. She decreed that, when she could not be in the Morlock Tunnels, Callisto would continue to serve as their leader. It was during the Morlock Massacre that Callisto helped Storm to overcome the inner doubts that she had, thus paving the way for her to grow into a strong and confidant leader.

The US government comissioned the mutant inventor, Forge, to create a device that would nullify superhuman powers. Henry Peter Gyrich took the device and tried to fire it at Rogue. Storm tried to protect her, taking the blast which robbed her of her powers.

Ororo returned to Africa to reconnect with herself, gaining a strong spirituality and inner peace. It was also during this time that she encountered a cosmic prankster known as The Adversary, who transported Storm to his created paradise. It was through this event that she regained her powers.

Her sense of purpose and self renewed, Storm rejoined the X-Men, only to be put in charge of the team a short time later with the departure of Cyclops and Jean Grey. With their return also came the honor of sharing the leadership position.

Personality:

Storm is a very straightforward type of person. During her youth, she had minimal contact with the modern world, especially once she had traveled to her ancestral home, so she often does not "get" some of the humor that others attempt. She is, however, fascinated by this and wants to learn so she can fit in better among civilians.

Storm takes her job as leader seriously and proves her dedication to the X-Men time and time again. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, willing to do whatever is necessary for them and the team, including sacrificing her own life if it meant that the others would survive.

A kind and compassionate individual, Ororo is always willing to lend an ear. When her advice is sought, it is filled with wisdom and is offered with what seems like a maternal love. Although she desires to have a romantic relationship with someone special, duty comes first.

Special Notes:

In light of her training, Storm always carries around a set of lockpicks with her.

Always fashionable, Ororo has a number of uniforms that she wears when on assignment with the X-Men, as well as a selection of civilian clothing that is simple, yet stunning.
