Persona II: Eternal Punishment Maya Amano, an up and coming editor for a popular teen magzine. This has been her dreams for as long as she can remember. Everything was going great, until a young man named Tatsuya stepped into her life... Maya knows that she has never met him, but in her heart she knows him from somewhere, a deja vu of sorts. One day, she is assigned to collect information on the rumor of the Joker Curse and their connection to the recent spress of serial murders that have rocked the city. Her investigations eventually led her to Seven SIsters High School, and whatever waiting for her is an ambush by the rumored devilish murderer, Joker, a reunion with the "Deja Vu Boy" who saves her, and the arising of different personalities called Persona. Super-under-rated game. The reason why I put this one first, is I want people to notice this game than anything I reviewed below. Ahem! First of all, the reason why people tried this game for a few minutes and dump it at some corner of their room is because of the difficulty in understanding or mastering the battle system in this game. Yea, it took me about 20 hours to get the full grasp of the system. And you know what next? I'm on my 5th round through this game now. It's really THAT good. No matter how much you explore, there's always new things for you to see and try. That's a part where Squaresoft and other well-known titles CANNOT compete with this game. The first thing that caught my eye and make me sit through the tedious early hours of the game is the opening. I never played the prequel, Innocent Sin before, and what exactly that guy in the red suit is thinking?! (he's the left most person on the picture on the left) The next thing that caught my eyes is the blood and gore in the game. Not many. Do you find any RPGs that has a modern setting? A rare gem. The battle system is very unique (unlike the familiar ATB system in many Final Fantasys.) and the contact, rumour system is absolutely smashing. I could go on and on, praising it like mad, but I doubt people like to read long reviews. So there. |

Koudelka Koudelka is set in the mysterious Nemeton Convent, an abandoned ruin by the cliffs of Aberystwyth, Wales. The 19th century religious community is rumored to be home to both fabulous treasures, and horrifying monsters. You control Koudelka Iassant, Edward Blunkett and Father James O'Flaherty, three adventurers attempting to solve the mysteries surrounding the convent. Yes, a very very very~ (X100 times) under-rated game. This game is damn freaking creepy, with a lot of swearing, and insulting the One up in the Heaven. The lady on the left is Koudelka, and she has some powers to be possess and communicate with spirits. This lady is arrogant, and I believe many people didn't really like her at the first impression. However, the rest of the party (aka Edward and James) ain't any better off. That's exactly what attracts me most in the game. Their interesting conversations. I had not come across ANY game that contains so much... let's just say.. "different points of view with the One up in the Heaven". The enemies are grotesquely design to scare you, and the surroundings are exactly like a haunted mansion. The main minus over this game is the horrible loading in the battle and the difficulty of the boss battles. However, we have already reach 2003, and this game should be buried under multiple layers of other game CDs, so unless you got really lucky, you can't get this game anymore. Sad. |

Shadow Hearts Yuri, a man with the power to fuse with the souls of monsters, is commanded by a mysterious voice to protect young Alice Elliot from her pursuers in this dark game which takes place in our world shortly before the Great War. Okay, should I say this game is under-rated? Unfortunately, the release date of this game is super-near to the Fame and Gory Final Fantasy X, thus not much people really take notice of this game. It's part of the Koudelka series, and it's one those rare rpgs that has blood, gore and dialogues that hints some prevert stuff.(all the credits goes to Yuri.) The real thing that caught my eye in this game is both the battle system and the personality of the main character. Let's dwell on Yuri Hyuga first without giving much spoilers. For once, like the prequel, Koudelka, Yuri is a very very different hero from rpgs. Yea sure, the game will run down to save the world, but Yuri didn't exactly is that oh-goody-goody-love-to-save-the-world-type of person. He in fact shows some hint of selfishness, and show many signs of weaknesses. Later in the game, he sort of find his true love, and he changed. Though I say WEAK, he's nothing like Tidus. (Okay, Tidus' fans don't come and hit me!) Yuri's weak, yes, but he got a strong side where he can protect his loved ones. (Unlike Tidus, which I got the impression that he always yell and scream because something bad happened.) Okay, so I go on over the battle system. When you
perform actions, there will be a ring going round where you need to hit the
suitable parts of the area to perform that particular action. Confused? For
example, when you wish to perform attack, you need to hit the ring at the
right time to hit that enemy. Sounds annoying? No it isn't. It's very easy
to perform and doesn't need precise timing like Legend of Dragoon. |

Kingdom Hearts Though this is consider as a hit last year, it seems some people (aka my friends) feels that this game ain't worth the money because it consists of the Old' Disney. Well, you are wrong! The strongest point of this game is the mix between Final Fantasy Characters and Disney Characters. Yup, you didn't hear me wrong. When you plunge yourself into the world of kingdom hearts, it captures your heart right away. Though you HATE to admit that you once like/watch Disney at some point of your life, this game allows you to recall some of your best moments when you are a kid. The storyline is just a couple of dialogues between characters, but the opening and the ending is bloody-whoop-your-ass-good. The last time I shear a tear in FF storyline is in FF7, 5/6 years later I shear again. Over this game. Yes, it's really that good. GO get your copy now. |
