History of the Realm

History of Lanai
Lanai is one of eight continents on the world of Tyne-Myrryl.
The continent consists of three lands – Lanai, the main continent, Qir-Lanai, the sister floating continent , and Sur-Lanai, the underground continent.

Lanai began as a land rich with natural beauty and mystery. The ancient races of Elves found its mystique and beauty far more suitable to their needs than the other, predominately human, realms of Tyne-Myrryl. As the majority of the world’s Elven population settled in the Realm of Lanai, rumor gathered in the other realms of great magic and treasure on Lanai.

With human greed and rumor spreading, the races of Elves formed an alliance against the inevitable attacks on Lanai. The Elves defended their lands for centuries against the invaders. Eventually, the rumors and greed subsided, and the Realm of Lanai was peaceful.

With peace came trade with the other continents, and with trade came a peaceful settlement in Lanai of halflings, humans, and dwarves (though the dwarves claimed to always have been in the mountains of Lanai). An era of art, beauty, and wealth came with peace.

It had long been decided that the Elves would rule Lanai. Lanai’s inhabitants, regardless of race, agreed to pay allegiance to the Elven King (who was chosen by an Elven parliament when a new King was needed – whether due to death or dethronement). The Elven Kings ruled well, destroying many of the monsters of the Realm, keeping the peace, and ensuring that the laws of the land were kept.

The Gold Elves, their race being at least double in number of any other, grew very fond of politics and government. Though no one seemed to notice, the parliament slowly became more and more filled by Gold Elves.

Eventually, the parliament filled completely with Gold Elves – perhaps due to their numbers, or perhaps their ruthlessness and keen interest in politics - none is certain. The Gold Elven parliament ousted the Celestial Elven King, Alynathalos, and ordered that new law would rule the land. The Gold Elf, M’Raak, was deemed the first of the Royal Gold Elven family – and the first of the new kings.

Over time, magic had been forbidden by the non-magical Gold Elves. Lands were confiscated from the other races and the non-Gold Elves were moved to less desirable lands on Lanai. Any non-elf was persecuted and driven to hiding or driven from the land. Magic-users, half-breeds, and non-elves were slaughtered mercilessly, driven from the land, or enslaved.

The Gold Elves began breeding monsters for their service and released them upon the land. The slightest infraction on Gold Elven law would earn a person a death sentence. Slowly, the other races began to dwindle. Some, like the frail and very magical Celestial Elves disappeared from the land completely, though some were rumored to be in hiding. The land began to crumble.

A Resistance Order was founded, a loose configuration of people tired of the Gold Elven rule. They began to rally people of all races for war.

Hearing of the small uprising, the Gold Elven King N’ra sent the mass of his army to slaughter the rebels and their forces.

Seeing the trouble caused by the Resistance, and hoping to be spared the wrath of the massive opposing armies, the allies of the Resistance Order betrayed them. The allies, however, were not spared their lives, but slaughtered as well. The ElfClash war, as it would be called, consisted of a small band of opposing races against the masses of the Gold Elven armies. Though the small army fought valiantly on the side of the opposing races, they never had the chance to develop their forces to their fullest before being crushed by the Gold Elves.

Regardless, the ElfClash war was a turning point in the history of Lanai, as they marked the true Dark Times of the land. Merciless monsters and bands of Gold Elven soldiers now hunted the other races of Lanai. Magic was gone from the land, and, with it, fled hope and happiness. Life on Lanai was now a struggle for all who were not Gold Elven. But in futility, resistance is formed, and the desire for a better life is always strength for a suppressed people.

Present day Lanai sows the seeds for resistance and another ElfClash war. The Resistance Order is fledged anew, this time headed by the Gold Elf Aleuren and consisting of other Gold Elves within its ranks. Even through raids and attacks, the other races have managed to replenish their numbers. The age of a new rebellion is near, and the races hope that this age might bring upon the end of the Gold Elves’ power.
