PC Engine Review: Advanced V.G.
The series is quite popular in Japan, with several versions being available for the Super Famicom, PC Engine, and Saturn amongst others. And for good reason. Advanced V.G. is a tough, well made fighter. You have nine girls available to play, ranging from a schoolgirl to a playboy bunny. Conveniently, the manual supplies you with several special moves for each character. Advanced V.G. is your standard fighting game, with standard controls and play, and pretty good graphics.
Where I thought the game became a bit problematic was with its skill level. Advanced V.G. is VERY hard, and the enemies are fast and brutal. For those of you less skilled at fighting games, this game may be more than you were expecting. The AI is fast, smart, and unyielding. From the first battle, it was a struggle to keep up and every battle felt like an unbelieveable triumph. Excluding the difficulty, Advanced V.G. has tight controls that are fairly easy to use and simplistic. The moves are easy to pull off, and the characters are well balanced. The collision detection is good as well, if you have faster reflexes than the enemies.
Advanced V.G. is a good, solid fighting game, well built, but VERY challenging. It's well made and graphically well-executed. I'd recommend it for skilled fighter players, and those truly wishing to test themselves.
