Samantha was born on Betazed in 2341 to Betazoid doctor Rayn Kiernen and Vulcan Starfleet officer, Krel. As a child, Samantha travelled around with her parents, staying with her mother while her father performed his duties serving the Federation. Her mother kept her doctoring liscense up-to-date, often assisting if needed in the vessel's infirmiry. Being a Vulcan, her father planned on teaching her many traditions of the Vulcan people thus giving Samantha a meditation lamp for her fifth birthday. This was the last time Samantha saw her father, as he was presumed killed in action in 2346 while serving aboard the USS Kechi. Following this, Samantha and her mother moved to Betazed, where Rayn went to work at a clinic in her hometown until 2349, when Rayn returned to Starfleet Medical to work as a medical researcher and assistant doctor.

In 2353, Samantha's mother remarried to a Betazoid man named Alexander Kechen. It was recorded by counselors at the time to Samantha did not like this, rebelling against her mother and new step-father. Frustrated, her mother agreed to allow her to live with Vulcan relatives in 2355 when Samantha was 14 years old. She fit right in with the culture, adapting well to the dry planet and its reserved inhabitants. While Samantha was there, her half-brother Riorden, was born in 2356.

Samantha was accepted into the Betazed Academy of Medicine at age 17 and began her studies as a medical doctor and psychiatrist. She enjoyed her time here, often volunteering in the Betazed clinic, and loved her host family dearly. Sam was made godmother of her host sister's twin children, with whom she keeps in contact with. She began searching for answers and fulfillment in her life, something she felt could be done in Starfleet. She then applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted in 2360 as a second year medical cadet (age 19). This caused some minor infractions with her classmates, but despite this Samantha remained in the top of her class, graduating with honors in the year 2364 from Advanced Medical School. She also graduated with multiple commendations on her record from her service with the Academy's Flight Demonstration Team. While still a student at the Academy, Samantha had been asked multiple times to be a test pilot (or co-test pilot) in new fighters Starfleet was building. She maintains this rating today, and has been known to take a fighter out for a mission or two.

Her first assignment was as the Medical Officer on the USS Oberon. She was soon promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade within a year for dedication and outstanding service. One year later, in 2366, Samantha transferred to Zion Station as their Head Counselor. She again recieved commendations for her service, and was promoted to full Lieutenant in 2367 at age 26. On a seemingly fast-track to the top, Sam was again transferred to the USS Hesston as Head Counselor. There she met her future husband, Tunan Srelorn, whom she married in 2369. In 2371, Sam was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and made second officer of the Hesston.

After being transfered to Earth to work in their Psychology department, Samantha completed her Command training with honors, and was then put in the pool for an Executive Officer assignment. In the year 2373, her daughter Cassandra Rayn Srelorn was born on Earth; two years later, Sam was promoted to Commander and made the Executive Officer of Deep Space 4, a research station. Her husband had transferred to the Reasearch and Development branch of Starfleet and, with a stroke of luck,was stationed on DS4 for research. This was a troubling year for the station, as their Commanding Officer- Captain J'Kel Connor -was found tortured to death by a Dominion terrorist faction. This faction continued to terrorize the station, and after a communications blockade (from the federation), Samantha was bestowed the field rank of Acting Captain. Starfleet had lost all contact with the station for 6 months, as the crew of DS4 struggled to fight a Guerilla war with these minor factions of the Dominion. (These factions tried to keep the war with the federation going). Samantha was put up in question for her actions during these times, but was cleared and given several commendations and medals. Her and her husband also adopted a young Betazoid child, named Kailyn, whom they'd discovered during an Away Mission.

Samantha was soon after promoted to Captain and given command of DS4. She remained in command of the station until 2378, when she was transferred to the USS Sarastro, a newly-commissioned Sovreign-class starship. For two years, Sam commanded the Sarastro and in 2380, she was assigned command of another newly-commission starship, the USS Glorion. Samantha remains in command of the USS Glorion today.
