Speaking of Amifri, he was always telling me stories about the universes beyond those of the humans. About his kind, the Katris...his daughter, her mother which he wished he had never met, the planet he used to live on, live people he had met... On, and on, and on, and on. I didn't mind, though... It was amazing how much humans never knew about other places in the vast plane called the "universe". Who would've known things like dragons, gryphons, and other such things even existed!
On the up side, I could travel wherever I wanted whenever I wanted. Walls? No problem! I'd just pass right through them... Of course, that lead me to find out more than I ever wanted to about the students and staff at my old school. Some of it was just... well... wrong! I hope I never, ever, EVER see anything like what I saw again. People...ew.
There isn't really much to do when you're dead: except interact with other ghosts, float around from place to place aimlessly, and scare people out of their wits. No wonder so many places are haunted, it can get boring being a ghost. I was tempted to go terrorize the boys who had picked on me in life, but I had a more immediate objective... I wanted to console Jasien. He felt like it was his fault and I wanted to tell him it wasn't.
Unfortunately, though, I still had no clue how to communicate with the living. Other ghosts could do it easily (that's how they haunted people), but so far I hadn't learned even the beginning steps... And I didn't want to wait however long until I learned how to. I needed someone who could speak to spirits.
So that's what I spent my time doing; drifting from place to place and testing people to see if they could hear me. So far, I hadn't found anyone... Amifri had told me that you could sense whether they could or not; but if there was someone that could, they were too far away from me to sense. I moved throughout time and space, seeing places that no human could ever imagine would exist. It reminded me of the books I used to read and the games I used to play when I was alive as well as the Magic cards I collected.
My search was completely fruitless... Until one day, I stumbled upon one of the creatures I'd only dreamed could exist...
As I faded into the scene the sun was setting on a lake turning it different colors of the spectrum. It was absolutely beautiful, but I didn't see anyone to speak to. Another ghost had given me the directions to this speck in the universe saying there would be someone here who could help me, but it seemed to be completely desolate!
A slight splash in the water caught my attention, and I turned to see a glowing figure climb out of the lake on all fours. She had a large pair of webbed wings, a long tail, and a sleek head; her color was white with a faint, eerie blue glow. It was a dragon! Though...a rather...weird dragon. She looked almost like she were a ghost...
"Hello?" I called out hesitantly. The dragoness's head jerked up and her opalescent eyes focused on me.
"Yes?" she asked in a soft, verbal voice... The odd thing was, her lips didn't move! "How can I help you?"
I gulped slightly...or did something ghostly that was similar. "S..someone told me that you could help me get a message to someone that's still alive..."
The dragoness nodded. "Certainly, just tell me whom you need a message delivered to."
"Um...please don't!" I yelped. "No...offense to you...ma'am? But I don't want to scare him and I'm not sure how he would react... Isn't there someone else you can tell me about that would be more...acceptable?"
To my surprise, the dragoness didn't seem to care. "That can be arranged...I think I might know a suitable person, too."
"Really?" I asked. "Wow... Finally."
The dragoness nodded and stooped down slightly. "Get on, you won't pass through me and this is the easiest way to lead someone else somewhere."
Hesitantly, and feeling a little awkward, I climed up on the dragoness's back at the base of her shoulders. Surprisingly, I could feel her body soft and warm beneath me, almost as though she were somewhere between a ghost and a living dragon.
"Better hold on tight," she warned before launching into the air. I hadn't heeded it quick enough...after all, I was a ghost right? I could fly! But it jarred me unbelievably hard almost knocking me off and I figured out then that if I didn't hold on, I was going to lose my ride and my chance at delivering my message.
