I'm a big believer in reality based role-playing, which I think is what I enjoy Gemstone so much. Start off by reading the Simutronics history and some of the other files they have regarding spells, skills and guides. This will later help you to create a well created, easy to roleplay character, and something you will enjoy later on when you get older, and hunting isn't your first priority.(It never has been for me). You will meet some people who will just be in the game for the hunting and for other things that you aren't, so be prepared. When you do roll your character, I find it to be helpful to create a character which is going to mesh well with your out of game personality. I have two characters, and they are both aspects of my personality which makes it easy to role-play. Don't play a quiet bookish character if you are outgoing and boisterous in real life, it will just make life difficult.
Deciding on a profession-
Empath- I find empaths are most often people who don't like hunting a whole lot(although there are some who hunt along with people). Be prepared as an empath though, people are really aggressive in this profession. You have to be quick on your healing, and you also need to be friendly..If you aren't quick you are bound to get frustrated easily at people who are more aggressive(sometimes called vulture healers) The upside of course is you get to heal people when they get hurt, and it makes you feel proud you can help out. You are also helpful during invasions, when young warriors, wizards and sorcerors are not most often. Most of the spells are in place now, so you will have some nice things to help you out too! Clerics- Being a cleric can be interesting, mainly because there are many different directions you can go into. There are many different Gods to choose to follow, and the choices between dark and light, whether to hunt or mostly rescue people, that kind of thing. There is opportunity to get creative with rituals, your raising, or prayers. Most of the spells are in place as well in this proffession, although it can be difficult tohunt as you get older, unless it is undead. Bards- The most creative of the classes out there. You will need to be creative, intelligent, outgoing and talented to play this class. If you are just going to play a bard because they are have "cool spells" Don't do it. It's so disappointing to see bards who don't sing, tell stories or do any kind of performance. That is the profession. If you don't like these things, don't be a bard. There are opportunities to socialize through your music, and to hunt, because they are strong hunters if trained well. It does take patience to play a bard though, so if you get into this profession then you shouldn't like getting older fast. Many of the spells are in place now, though not all, they are being worked on as this is written. Wizards- There are a lot of people who choose to be a wizard starting out, and it is not as easy as many think it is. Magic is nice to have, but as you get older, there are people asking for spells, and there are many difficulties to hunting as you get older. A good profession for people who like to hunt alone because you actually can without too much trouble. You can also make lots of money enchanting and imbedding things, if you actually like working for other people. The spell list is mostly complete(if not completely done) and it is a powerful profession. Sorcerors- I know a lot of mean sorcerors, which doesn't mean you have to be that way, but if you are a cheery upbeat person, a lot of times it can intefere with your roleplaying, in my opinion. One of the easier professions, full of many beneficial spells, sorcery is a good choice if you want to age relativly quick and be creative with magic(the spells are near complete if not complete as well) Warrior- In some cases, being a warrior can be good for someone first starting out who wants to learn the mechanics of the game before delving into something more complicated. I am a warrior, and enjoy the hunting as well as the opportunity to roleplay a lot of things, including guild skills, as well as intelligence. There are many different ways to play a warrior, which makes it for a versitile role-playing opportunity. Ranger- While I have not had the opportunity to play a ranger as of yet, the people who play rangers seem to enjoy it greatly, and of course you can always say if you get lost, you can't help it you are a ranger..:duck: That being said there are also choices in race which can build even more of your character. Before you choose your race, I would read all of the information on the histories of each race. That way you can make an informed choice and make a well role-played character. You can find most of the information on this site, or in Simutronics library.
