Frecko Bernisk

Frecko Bernisk

Frecko Bernisk, Elf

Born on a farm south of Ta'Vaalor, though not officially sanctioned as Vaalorn Elf.

His family moved closer to the city to seek protection of the Keep, from various threats ranging from Orc, Troll and Ogre, to include raiding parties of Humans from the southwest. His father farmed many hundreds of acres of land to the southwest of The City, and Frecko worked along side him in the fields until his Twelfth year.

The fall of Frecko's twelfth year brought trouble to his before peaceful life. A Maelstrom of some magnitude touched down in the plains, it lasted for most of the day, and when the storm lifted, all of the crops that were ready for harvest were destroyed.
Frecko's father was a proud man, and for many months he tried to make due with what he could find to support his family, but as his excursions to the nearby city became more frequent, so did the length of his stays. Observers noted that Frecko's father could not bear to look upon his starving pitiful family, and the depression this brought in him, he soon found solace in strong drink.
Frecko, now in the spring of his Thirteenth year, was left more and more often to be the leader of his family. His mother, growing sick with famine and malnourishment, became his only concern. As his mothers health declined, the fathers visits became none at all. The farm fell to waste, and as Frecko's father began to consume more spirits than income, he was soon heavily laden in debt.
In the spring of Frecko's thirteenth year, his father returned to the farm, for supposedly the last time. Accompanying Frecko's father, was the captain of Vaalor's Guard. It was explained to Frecko, that to settle his father's debt, he would be required to enlist in the Vaalorn Militia, and his pay for the next five years would be turned over to the City, in lieu of payment of his father's debt. Frecko would have no part of forced servitude, and kissing his mothers fevered brow, he slipped away that night into the forests, headed south.

After some eight days of travel, Frecko soon learned that the forest was no place for a child. Starving, dehydrated, and near death, he finally collapsed, southwest of Ta'Vaalor, and his home.
When Frecko awoke, he found himself within the confines of a small village. What he saw there surprised him, Faendryl Elves, whom he had always been taught to be vicious, non consequential barbarians, had taken him in, and nursed him to health. They allowed Frecko all the freedom within the village he could hope for, and never asked of him where he had traveled, and how he came to be so far away from anything. Frecko was also instructed, in many different ideals, and theories. Information was given freely to him, and he never wanted for anything.

Soon Frecko began to study the use of mana, and control of the elements, as well as the spiritual planes. Soon he could control them each with the slightest gesture, or a few mumbled words. Frecko also studied the more arcane arts, finding himself to adapt to the studies quickly. Frecko soon became an equal to his instructors, and after seven years of study, he was ready to leave this Faendryl Village, and make his way North, to Ta'Vaalor, and his home.

Frecko arrived at his childhood farm, now destroyed by time, and elements, and walked around, the memories of his childhood rushing over him as he wandered. Coming to a large willow tree, that stood nearby the decrepit foundation of his childhood home, he found a neglected Headstone, and upon it he could just make out one name, that of his mother.

Emotions flooded Frecko's judgment as he made his way thru the Victory Gate, and into the city of Ta'Vaalor. He sought one person, his father, and soon found him where he suspected the man might be. In the arms of a Harlot, and in a drunken Stupor. Of what, and how the homecoming involved or transpired, no one speaks of openly, but Frecko sums it up in his own words, in saying that his father.." Met with a death befitting the suffering that my mother met with hers, and the harlot was saved the pleasure of watching it unfold, she had not the stamina that my father exhibited, but I don't consider her death to have been in vain.... My father got to witness beforehand, what he soon would experience himself."

For the crime, that of bringing harm, or death to another elf, Frecko was sought after to be hung, as is according to Elven Law. Realizing quickly his mistake, he again fled the city, this time grown, and knowing to where he would flee. He made his way back to the Faendryl Village, to be received, he believed, in the same manner he had been when first brought there. This however was not the case. The village elders, quickly realizing that even though Frecko might possess the knowledge to master the power of their instructions, realized he did not have the restraint, or power to control them. In a decidedly painful ceremony, they stripped Frecko of all the knowledge of the arts they had instructed him in, of his ornaments, and set him on a trail that would lead him west.

It has been ten years since Frecko was cast away by the Faendryl, and sought after by those in Ta'Vaalor. He has regained some of the knowledge that was 'robbed' from him by the Elders, and still carries in him vengeance for the deed. His exposure to other races, and customs, in his travels makes him well spoken, but he prefers to be among elves. He is not above using another of a 'lesser' race to further his own goals, thru deception, or sorcery. His own goals now being to find vengeance from those who made him what he is today, The Faendryl, and most certainly the elves of Ta'Vaalor. When he speaks of Faendryl Elf, he is quick to differentiate those who share the ideals of his own Elders, and those who reek ignorance. He appreciates pleasant and knowledgeable conversation, and is polite to all who approach him, usually until he can determine what, if any use they may be to him in reaching his goal. Those that prove to be of little value to his goals he summarily dismisses, and he is above all else an Elf raised in the shadow of Ta'Vaalor. He recognizes his place among 'the chosen' and he becomes easily annoyed by those elves who do not demonstrate their superiority.
