Maiden's Handguard: Dark Slayer

The first CD based on the world of La Pucelle Tactics. Its name comes from my fanfic "Child of Light and Darkness." "The Maiden's Handguard" is the title of the first chapter, and the unit that Prier now leads. "Dark Slayer" is the nickname people have given Prier, and what Demons commonly call her ("The Dark Slayer" or "Prier Dark Slayer") during the story.

Those songs marked with a [*] have in depth analysis in the Songs of the RPG & Anime Couples section.

1. I Won't Back Down (Tom Petty)
Prier
As the title suggests, the singer isn't going to be scared away by anything, always standing tall and brave. Just like Prier, she only was down for one chapter in the whole story and that was cuz Croix was practically out of her reach and consumed in darkness. I could see such lines as You could stand me up at the gates of Hell and And I'll keep this world from draggin me down describing Prier and her determination.

2. Try (Nelly Furtado)
Eclair, with Homard
The song seems to suggest how Eclair learned about the real world in her journeys with lyrics like The more I learn, the more I learn. The more I cry, the more I cry. As I say goodbye to the way of life I thought I had designed for me. However, Homard wants her to be able to overcome and be more than just a princess in order to find who Eclair really is. But since this is all so new to her, she just has to try her best in order to get by.

3. What a Feeling (Irene Cara)
Prier
Though it's about dancing, it also has the feel like that could be a metaphor for something else. It's about making your dreams happen, even though there are hardships to face. Prier did have to head forward despite her fears and pain in order to follow her heart. There's also the line all alone I have cried, silent tears full of pride which reflects how Prier holds her pain in to keep strong, but when she is upset she goes somewhere to cry alone (like what Culotte says at the end of Chapter 2).

4. Come What May (Nicole Kidman & Ewan Mcgregor)
Prier & Croix
Sappy love song which kinda reminds me of the two of them. It's just the newness of the love being sung about and the strange emotions the two singers are going through that makes me think and dream of what'll happen when Croix comes back from his journey and into her arms. They won't let anything get in their way, their love will prevail.

5. Last Train Home (Lostprophets)
Prier & Croix
This shows the confusion in Prier and Croix's relationship and how they don't know what's going on in their own lives. Plus, they also know that there is no reason to avoid falling in love. Since the last line is about having no reason to never fall in love again after what happened with Angelique's death, it shows how Croix got back on his feet and realized he could love Prier.

6. I Wanna Love You Forever (Jessica Simpson)
Prier
It's about a vow of eternal love and how the singer doesn't want it to end. That kind of reminds me of Prier's own vow inside of Croix's heart when she tells him she'll take care of him for the rest of his life and protect him from the darkness. Plus, the lines I've always been taught to win and I never thought I'd fall. Be at the mercy of a man. I've never been, now I only want to be right where you are are similar to Prier. She's always been an independent girl who takes care of herself. However, now she's at the mercy of her affection for Croix and learning new things about her own heart.

7. No Living Without Loving You (Celine Dion)
Prier
Although the singer is physically independent, she still needs her man around to complete her. Prier is strong, she can take care of herself just fine, but it doesn't mean she wants Croix to be gone forever. She would like him to stay with her for the rest of her life if possible.

8. Run Away (Live fet. Shelby Lynn)
Prier & Croix
It's a song about feeling lost in love; epitomizing the confusion felt between Prier and Croix throughout the game. However, they plan to try and make it together the best they can.

9. Don't Leave Home (Dido)
Prier & Croix
The song is about how the singer wants her beloved to take comfort in her arms during trying times instead of going off on his own to do the same thing. She promises to be his safety, warm him when its cold, and be there when he's alone. Just as Prier vows to do for Croix when he is feeling down.

10. Iris (Goo Goo Dolls)
Croix (about Prier)
It shows insecurity about the past and emotions. Just like Croix after finding out his past. However, he is singing about a girl who will help him feel better and who has made his life worth it because she cares for him. Sounds like his feelings on Prier to me...

11. All You Wanted (Michelle Branch)
Prier & Croix
Prier's longing to protect Croix from everything that has hurt him. She sees his pain, and how all he's ever wanted was to be loved by someone else. And just like Prier does in the game, the singer vows to always be there to care about this young man.

12. Trip On Love (Abra Moore)
Prier & Croix
Both Prier and Croix don't have the courage to admit their love like the person in the song. However, an accidental admittance is another thing. If one of them had unwillingly confessed their emotions during the course of the game, who knows how it would have changed the outcome.

13. I go to Extremes (Billy Joel)
Prier
Since the song is about taking everything as far as you can go, it reminded me of Prier's attitude. She's not one to do things half-assed; when she decides to do something, she goes all out.

14. You're the Inspiration (Chicago)
Croix & Prier
The singer is telling his lover how she's always on [his] mind, in [his] heart, in [his] soul and an inspiration in whatever he does. He also wants her to be near forever, saying no one needs you more than I, need you... to him. Kind of sounds like the feelings that Croix has for Prier, doesn't it?

15. Even Angels Fall (Jessica Riddle)[*]
Prier & Croix
Although the song is sung by a woman, it is about a man that she's talking to. He's had a bad experience in love and lost one he cared about before (though this seemed to be more about a break up, you still could say that death might be how she made him hurt through no fault of her own). Things seemed bad for him in some way though it is not explained how. But she tries to comfort him in any way possible. Kind of like Prier's concern over Croix's horrible past.

16. Imaginary (Evanescence)
The setting of the final battle
Not so much about a particular character, but about the fight in Croix's heart. The battle is set in a twisted and warped world created by a culmination of Croix's longings and the essence of the Dark Prince. That fits the mood of this song, as well as how lyrically it is about a person's fantasy world.

17. Taking Over Me (Evanescence)
Prier & Croix
It's about belief in another person, a person who the singer loves and wants to find and be with. Sort of like how Prier put her trust in Croix when he left, and in a time of desperation (fanfic related since the game doesn't show what happens next) she would be out to find him again.
