Maiden's Handguard: Holy Child

The second CD based on the world of La Pucelle Tactics. Its name comes from my fanfic "Legend of the Holy Child." Just like in "Child of Light and Darkness," "Maiden's Handguard" is the name of Prier's unit. "Holy Child" is the title Prier is known by in her home village due to her holy powers, as well as what the enemy calls her due to her destiny to save Croix and stop Calamity's rebirth.

1. Wheel in the Sky (Journey)
Croix
In this song, the young man is on a journey that has taken him over a year so far. His beloved waits for him at home. It is unknown how much longer this will go on, or where he'll even be in the morning. Just like how Croix leaves at the end of La Pucelle to go on a journey of redemption with know way of knowing where he's going or when he'll come home to Prier.

2. Love Will Lead You Back (Taylor Dayne)
Prier
The singer is a young woman whose man left, needing some time to his self to deal with issues. However, she is confident that eventually love will show him what he's missing and he'll come back to her. Kind of like Prier's belief in Croix and that he'll eventually return home to her arms.

3. Alone (Lasgo)
Prier or Culotte
The singer is in love, but the person who is the recipient of those affections is not here to respond to them. This leads to the singer doubting the other returns this love. In Prier's case, she was confused the whole game about Croix's feelings for her, and then he left her for his journey. If you go with Culotte, he loved Alouette but she cared about him like an older sister does for her brother, and then died in the end which squashed any chance the boy had of making her feel differently.

4. Out of the Blue (Debbie Gibson)
Prier
The singer was always ok without someone to love her. She seemed content with her life, until a special man entered and turned it all around. Now, the girl wants to be with him all the time. Just like how Prier was always resistant to love, living an independent life, until Croix came into the picture and she realized how good it felt.

5. Collide (Howie Day)
Prier & Croix
The song emphasizes the confusion in love felt by two people. It also shows the fears they have about exploring these emotions. It's sort of like how Prier and Croix were unable to realize their own feelings until they were inside of his heart; and then it was only because they needed to do so to save him.

6. One in a Million (Bosson)
Croix, on Prier
The song is about a young man who has finally found the love he's been searching for. He's deeply in love with her, but she's strong willed and difficult as well as not believing to be in love. Seeing as we get Prier's reactions to when Croix denies his love for her, this might be what he thinks when she is hiding her feelings.

7. Angel (Aerosmith)
Croix, on Prier
It's all about a lonely man who is trying to admit his feelings for a girl. His fears and pride kept him back before, and he wants to get beyond them because he's suffering. Heh, sounds a lot like Croix and how he was unable to admit his love for Prier until it really mattered.

8. On the Side of Angels (LeAnne Rhimes)
Prier, to Croix
The song is about new love and moving forward despite past hardships. Finally, the people in question can be happy together. Prier discovered love with Croix despite their own past hardships and unsuccessful romances; his losing Angelique and her being hit on by every old guy within a five mile radius.

9. Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison)
Croix singing about either Prier or Angelique
It's all about young love and the innocence involved in it. Plus, at the end, the singer sees this girl after some time has passed. That could either depict Croix being given a vision of Angelique's spirit/angel form in order to assure him that she wants him to be happy with Prier, or his reaction to returning after his journey. I also chose it for the fact that the girl has brown eyes, just like both of these women.

10. Here With Me (Dido)
Prier
It's about a woman who seems heartbroken after losing the one she loves. He's left, and one slight move might change the things she remembers about him. It makes you wonder...how is Prier going to be acting after Croix's been away for some time? We know her initial reaction was to believe in him and to wait for his return. However, will time eventually make her begin to lose hope and enter a deep depression? Only fanfics and Nippon Ichi working on a sequel will tell.

11. A New Day Has Come (Celine Dion)
Prier & Croix
The song is about a strong girl and the man that made her life complete. She was surviving on her own, but needed him just the same. Prier was strong and able to get by on her own, but Croix was what made her world run the way she wanted it.

12. I'll Stand By You (Pretenders)
Prier to Croix
The singer is trying to console a friend or lover (the distinction is never made but it seems more like the latter) over something that's gone wrong in the past or the immediate present. I can see Prier using this song to convince Croix to let her take on his burdens, then take him into her arms and caress his back as she whispers words of concern in his ears. Or...that could just be the fangirl in me talking. But either way, this does sound like her attitude towards his bloody past.

13. Happy Girl (Martina McBride)
Prier
It's all about a girl who comes out of her shell and begins to live her life the way she feels like it. She always moves forward even in the worst of situations. It's like how Prier always marches to the beat of a different drum and not how the world sees it.

14. Send Me an Angel (Real Life)
Croix
The song concentrates on a man who has been unlucky in love in the past and doesn't seem to want to go onward in a new relationship; fearing another issue. Eventually, he calls to Heaven for an Angel to help him love again. Croix had a horrible romantic past where his fiancee was murdered for her beliefs and seemed reluctant (read: embarrassed) whenever the subject of romance was brought up. The Angel part is sort of a metaphoric situation that I brought up in my drabble, Angel. Prier would seem like an Angel for her belief in Croix, her acceptance of his past, and how she saved him from his own self.

15. Once in a Blue Moon (Sydney Forest)
Prier, on Croix
The singer is alone because her lover has gone away. However, she vows to wait for him until he returns. Prier allowed Croix to leave on his journey because she knew it was what was best for him. However, she still believes in him and will wait for him to return to her.

16. Hanging by a Moment (Lifehouse)
Croix, Homard, or Culotte
I know this was intended to be about love for God (Lifehouse started as a small church band), but the lyrics are ambiguous enough to be a love song.
Taking it into that context, it's about falling closer and closer to your emotions and the person you really care about. The guys in La Pucelle felt their emotions for the girls getting stronger (Croix becomes embarrassed whenever the mention of him and Prier together comes up, Homard becomes protective of Eclair and takes it upon himself to help her become stronger, and Culotte vows to do everything he can to protect Alouette) as the game goes on. You might be able to make the case for Prier and Eclair too, but this is sung by men.

17. Strong Enough (Sheryl Crow)
Prier to Croix
The girl wants to have a man who is strong enough to stay by her throughout all her problems and issues in life. She could be angry and throwing punches or broken from despair but he must stand by her. Prier finds emotions for Croix, who is very strong. Though he leaves, it has nothing to do with her and her problems; he's dealing with his own. When he returns, he will be able to care about her through thick and thin.
