TALAIRE
The talaire are a subrace within the humans. Though they are capable of breeding with regular humans, most chose to stay within their own in hope of improving their thinned out bloodlines. Though they share much of their culture with the Kells, they are born with an innate ability to use incarnum, an amorphous magical substance made up of the soul energies of all sentient creatures --living, dead, and it is theorized, those not even born yet. They claim the goddess Talairis made love to the human Janus at the beginning of time, and their children became the Talaire. PERSONALITY The talaire tend to be very vocal, and aren't afraid to let others know what they are thinking. They are very proud of who they are, and will stand with the best Kell warrior when the time comes. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION The talaire are almost identical to a normal human in most respects. The one exception to this is their eyes: the sclera (whites) of talaire eyes have a sky-blue sheen. They tend to wear facial paints to distinguish themselves from the regular Kells. Clothing usually consist of robes in the larger communities, but in rural areas, they wear what the locals do, and may even go completely nude, covered in body paints. The youth wear no facial hair, but once the age of thirty is reached, they grow beards to show wisdom and experience. RELATIONS The talaire form a very important part within the human communities. They are the healers, priest, and warriors wrapped into one. They offer wisdom to the warlords, and salvation to the masses. A powerful talaire shaman on the field of battle may be the determining factor between victory and utter defeat. It is rare, but not unheard of to have a whole community of talaire. Their numbers are just not that plentiful. Most Kell rural communities will only have one to four talaire among them, while a city may support as many as ten. During the great wars of the past, the talaire were much more powerful then they are today. There are legends among the Kell of lone talaire Elds destroying whole legions of elven warriors with just a look. After the breaking of the world, there powers became watered down versions of those of the past.
TALAIRE LANDS The talaire share the same lands, and even the same communities as the Kells. Most take up the role of the village priest and wise man. The closest they come to having their own lands is the secret city called Dar Rynor, which translates to Destiny. It is here that the head of the Order of the Stars resides. The Order of the Stars oversees, in theory, all the Shamans and Elds across Arram. Most talaire make at least one pilgrimage to Dar Rynor during their life time. Normal humans are forbidden from ever seeing inside the walls of Dar Rynor.
RELIGION The talaire are the keepers of the Kell religion. They act as the priest and healers in Kell communities. Talaire bards keep the stories of the gods alive within the human communities. The talaire are forced to memories the entire collection of legends about the gods before they even reach the age of eight.
There has been a new movement in some communities that greatly worries the Order of the Stars. In those clans that have abandoned the gods, the talaire have come to think of themselves as gods. Many of these communities have replaced their warlord with the talaire shaman or eld of their community.
LANGUAGE The talaire speak the same language as the Kells, santic. Most can even write the language. In addition, they are taught to write Moon Runes, the secret language of the tailaire.
