Ian McTavish

Owner of the Rancid Pig Tavern

Pirate Mercenary

Lirion Starsong Elariel, known as Ian, a Half-Elf born in the frost-kissed fishing village of Tarilun on the northern shore of Falanore, navigated a childhood dominated by the relentless assaults of the Islidruk, called the Iceborn. These descendants of the High Orc Raging Bear Clan, descended from the Great Ice Shelf as marauders , casting a perpetual shadow over Tarilun's frigid landscapes.

Tragedy unfurled early in Lirion's life when his father succumbed to an Islidruk raid. Left in the care of his moon elf mother and two brothers, Lirion's formative years unfolded as a saga of resilience and adaptation in the face of Falanore's harsh realities. As he matured, the imperative to master the art of combat became apparent, a crucial skill to defend against the unyielding Iceborn onslaughts. Ian's weapon of choice was the axe, its weight and power resonating with his fighting style. Though proficient with a sword and shield, the axe, with its ability to penetrate armor, became his favored companion. A stroke of luck came when he salvaged a suit of chain mail from creatures that attacked the village, custom-fitted by the local blacksmith.

Seeking respite from the perpetual struggles of Hassil, Lirion embarked on a westward journey. Bartering his chain mail for studded leather, a compromise between protection and flexibility, he set sail to explore the mainland human kingdoms, from the bustling harbors of Harak to the rugged shores of Fargraad. Mercenary work and bouts of piracy colored his adventures, showcasing Ian's adeptness as both a sailor and a warrior, enabling him to tread where others could not.

Within the diverse crews of these vessels, Ian's horizons expanded. He delved into the realms of literacy and linguistic mastery, facilitated by the diverse backgrounds of his fellow sailors. The warmth of the southern oceans starkly contrasted with the icy embrace of his homeland, prompting adjustments to his wardrobe and perceptions alike. Fate guided him to the service of the kingdom of Kydmarra, where he found himself embroiled in the clandestine activities of a smuggling vessel.

The illicit pursuits of the ship eventually attracted the attention of an Elven Naval Vessel, resulting in their interception and seizure. Ian, facing a sentence of five years as snagga due to his elven heritage, unexpectedly discovered the fairness and strict yet just nature of the Elves during his captivity. This revelation altered his perception, fostering an unexpected fondness for the land and its people.

Upon release, Lirion faced a pivotal decision. Instead of succumbing to the shadows of his past, he chose to redefine his destiny. In the heart of Hassil, a once-human village within Jordaine, Ian opened the Rancid Pig Inn. This establishment became a haven where tales of survival and camaraderie flourished, a testament to Lirion's resilience and adaptability. While predominantly tending to the inn, the call of mercenary work occasionally drew him back into the adventurous life he once knew.

Thus unfolds the tale of Ian Mctavish, a name borrowed from an old shipmate. Born from the struggles of a fishing village and the terror of Orcs, his chapter in the southern lands is marked by resilience, adaptability, and the unexpected twists of fate. The legacy of Ian Mctavish continues to weave itself into the tapestry of the southern lands, a testament to the enduring spirit forged in the crucible of adversity.
