Servery / Utensils

The servery is here not just to make a sajorte's life easier, even though it does. It is much more efficient to have things that may be needed to attend a Shalafi and his guests, collected in an easily accessible place. It enhances our ability, and, in so doing, raises him even more in the eyes of his guests.

The servery is well stocked with a wide variety of eating and drinking vessels which will be covered in the next section. It also has just about everything else that would be needed for serving refreshments. If it is not there, you can get to the cold room, kitchen and pantry without having to go back through the gallery.

If you have need of them, because you are serving more than one or two people, there is a variety of serving trays, linens, pitchers, bowls etc. available. This insures that you are able to complete your tasks quickly and efficiently.

In addition to the utensils that you may need, you will find that the basic food and drink items are also in there. There will be a variety of fruits and cheeses depending on the season as well as several bottles of wine and mead. You will also find one or two kegs of ale. Do not expect to find everything in there, it is only the basics and designed to help make you more efficient. You may find that you need to spend a bit more time and retrieve a specialty item from the cold room or pantry.

Remember it’s the niceties that the servery provides. There are linens for the trays to dress up the service, or keep the glasses, goblets etc from sliding as you move across the gallery, use them. The linens come in a variety of colors, mainly the palace colors, red and black, but there is also white, blue, green and a few others. There are a few different styles, from simple solid fabric to intricate lace pieces. For special occasions, a fine silver lace and a fine gold lace are available.

While there are trays that match all of the different services, nothing says that because you are using glass or silver for the food or drink, that you have to use the same tray. Certain rituals may require specific elements, but mostly it is up to you. Use your training and make the presentation look as good as you do.
