Intrigued by the ancient prophesies of the first Saiyans, Vegeta I decided to make his bloodline the one to create the 1st Super-Saiyan in 3,000 years. He had his son Vegeta II trained in the ancient fighting styles of the Saiyans in the hopes that one day 1 of his descendants would become a Super-Saiyan.

Unfortunately, the first Super-Saiyan had already been born. It was the newborn infant son of the Chief Saiyan Scientist, Paragus. His name was Broli. Jealousy, paranoia, and anger overcame the king. In a fit of rage, he had both Paragus and Broli executed. The Royal guards then dumped the bodies in a garbage pod and ejected it into space.

Over an hour later, the power of Galactus began converting Vegeta Prime into energy. The resultant exposure of cosmic energies restored Paragus and Broli to life. This event triggered Broli's Super Saiyan state at the cost of his sanity. It was not until years later that Paragus learned that his son was truly the legendary Super Saiyan.

Unfortunately, to Paragus' horror, whenever Broli used his powers the young Saiyan would erupt in a fit of berserker rage. It was from stopping one of his son's fits that Paragus lost his left eye. It was then that Paragus knew he would need to control his son's power. If he did not, then like the original Super Saiyan, Broli would destroy anything and anyone around him.

To this end, Paragus combined his talents with those of hired scientists to contruct a portable device that would allow him to control his son. Paragus had constructed his Mind Control Brace and a circlet, that when put on Broli's head, would allow him to take control of Broli's mind. Once control was established, Paragus used his son to take over planet after planet in a bid to ultimately conquer Earth. But to accomplish this, Paragus needed to get revenge upon the bloodline of King Vegeta---Prince Vegeta and Prince Trunks. Taking a cadre of mercenaries from the planet's Broli had conquered, Paragus went to Earth. Once their he convinced Prince Vegeta and Trunks(1) as well as most of the Z-Fighters to accompany him to Planet Vegeta Beta.

Unbeknownst to all but Paragus, Comet Kimouri was on a collission course with Vegeta Beta.

All was proceeding as Paragus had planned until Goku arrived tracking the energies of the legendary Super Saiyan. In mere moments, Broli's Saiyan instincts took over and soon Goku was battling the powerful Saiyan. Paragus then used his mind control brace. He was surprised to find that it took even more of his concentration to establish control over Broli than before. He was unaware that after over a decade of constant mind control, Broli had developed a resistance to the brace and circlet.

Hours later, Broli's power finally went beyond his father's control. In a fit of rage, Broli assumed his Super state and began pummeling the Z-Team. Gloating at the power of his son, Paragus revealed his true plan of revenge to the terrified Prince Vegeta. Feeling his thirst for revenge sated. Paragus entered a waiting space capsule. Knowing that he had to leave his son to be destroyed by the coming celestial collision, Paragus began prepping the engines.

Unfortunely, Broli was on to his father's scheme and with a mighty flex of his muscles, crushed the pod and threw its remains into orbit. Paragus last thoughts were of the irony of being killed by the son who once saved his life.
