My Pop, My Pop

Original release date: Oct. 18, 1940

Popeye's 99-year-old Pappy appears on-screen with a lovely theme song. But apparently, the song takes it out of him, because even though he insists on helping Popeye build a ship, his energy saps at every turn.

Obviously, this cartoon made the Fleischers decide that Pappy would be more fun as a party animal (just one cartoon later, in Poopdeck Pappy). Nevertheless, the animation and gags make this one above-par.
