Olive's $weep$take Ticket

Original release date: Mar. 7, 1941

The throwaway gag that opens this cartoon is as memorable as any of the more "legitimate" gags. We find Olive sewing to "Knit one, pearl two," only she does the "pearl two" with one of the elongated feet she immortalized in A Date to Skate (1938).

Then Olive receives a phone call telling her that her recently purchased sweepstakes ticket has won her a prize. Olive and Popeye fantasize about their future riches as they frantically search for the ticket. But as soon as Olive finds the ticket, a breeze blows it out the window. Gosh, this couldn't possibly result in some Fleischer heightened-perspective gags, could it?

Of course it could, and on that basis alone, the cartoon is one of Popeye's all-out funniest.
