Club's History

Genclerbirligi was found in March 14th, 1923. Their colours are Red and Black. They won Turkish Cup in 1987 and played in Cup Winners Cup in the next season. In 1994-95 season, they finished 5th in Turkish League and played in Inter-Toto Cup; they finished 3rd at Group-11 and were eliminated. Gençlerbirligi managed to play 3 Turkish Cup Finals out of 4 between the years 2001 and 2004, winning only one in 2001. It was the second Turkish Cup trophy that they have won, after 14 years. Gençlerbirliği played in the UEFA Cup in the season 2001-02 as cup winners, however they were eliminated in first round to Swedish Halmstad BK. Finishing the Superleague (2002-03) in 3rd place under management of coach Ersun Yanal, was meaning another UEFA Cup adventure in the season 2003-04. Managing to reach the stage of last 16 teams in UEFA Cup, Gençler was eliminated after extra time to Valencia CF, who were also UEFA Cup Winners of that season. Another Turkish Cup Final that Gençler is on the stage again was on 7th of May, 2008 at Bursa Atatürk Stadium. After both halves and extra time ended 0-0, Kayserispor were the Cup Winners after a thrilling penalty shoot-out (11-10). They have always been the proud of Ankara, always been the best in Ankara, and this season we are expecting much more success from them...
