Support Your Scene

I went to Augusta this weekend to see my boyfriend's band play. When we got there I was really excited to find out that One Eye Open was playing there that night. They are an awesome band in my point of view. They are funny guys who rock- what could be better? My boyfriend hadn't even heard of them which kind of surprised me. When I had went down there last March to see Squirtgun, there were a bunch of people there so I expected the same thing. But as the clock rolled around to 9:00 (when the doors were supposed to be open to the public) hardly anyone was in the Capri, an old porn movie theater that now holds shows. At 9:30, when my boyfriend's band, the Travoltas, started playing there were only 10 people in the crowd. This pissed me off because they are a really good band. I thought maybe more people would come in when One Eye Open got on stage. I thought wrong. Only 5 more people came in. This thoroughly pissed me off.

There were a bunch of people outside but nobody seemed to want to pay 5 dollars to go in and see a good show. Nevertheless, One Eye Open did a good job and played like there were more people there. Even though I am not from Augusta, it really embarrased me that hardly anyone came in. Travis, who helps run the place and is in the Travoltas, said that people come in when there is a big name playing. I don't know...

One Eye Open is a band from California. They are on two comps that I know of. As I said, they are funny. I've got this 7" of theirs and its got lots of theme songs like The Muppet Show, Saved by the Bell, Laverne and Shirley, and some others.Anyway, they've got lots more stuff. They seem pretty "big" to me but I guess that's my opinion.

You guys, go see your local shows. Support your scene. Or it will be gone. You are blessed with having local shows. I live 2 hours from any place that puts on shows. If you don't support it, it will be gone. It's like some of you don't understand that there will be nothing to fall back on, no place to hang out, no place to see shows. It's really hard to keep places (like the Capri) running. So what if you haven't heard of the band-expand your music horizons. You don't have to listen to the same shit every day. So help the scene out.
