Asgard, as any adept Night World member would
know, is both a realm of heaven for Norsemen, and specifically in Circle
Daybreak, "the home of immortal members." Three "VD nuts," as they
are called on list, have made it into Asgard. They, like every other
member of Asgard, were inducted during one of the Wiccan Sabbats.
Recently, on the list, the topic diverted
to The Vampire Diaries. In order to control character thrashing and
other outrages that have occurred in previous list discussion on the topic,
the a few of the members who choose their names from The Vampire Diaries
Trilogy were dispatched to control the overall flow of the conversation.
This is only one responsibility that Bonnie
McCullough, Katherine Von Schwartzchild and Caroline Forbes have had to
deal with. Not so much responsibility, but an unspoken agreement
that they have made. No one forces these members to speak so much
on the list that they’ve developed distinguished personalities.
Bonnie, for example, is a very vocal member.
She has been often mistaken for one of the Elders because of this loquacity,
but it should more be an honor than an insult to her.
Not only is Bonnie a very vocal member
on list, she has a voice on air. She is a sophomore at North Carolina
State University, where she is studying for a history major. Excluding
her academic pursuits and Internet activities, Bonnie is a disk jockey
for Nightwave, an alternative music program that airs from six to nine
on Mondays in the university's radio station.
But the mailing list is not all that Bonnie
has taken part in to receive the honor or an Asgard induction. For
approximately one year, Bonnie has been working on The Unofficial Night
World Soundtracks and The Balcony page where the songs for these soundtracks
are recommended by Night World members.
A little known project that Bonnie has kicked
off is The Cemetery. Characters in L.J. Smith books that have died
will be honored here, as well as members friends, family members, loved
ones or anything that they want to let go.
Katherine Von Schwartzchild, named after a
mysterious character from the Salvatore brothers past from the trilogy,
is a working woman all the way. She not only runs the Night World
Role Playing Game and maintains it’s page daily, but she works as a visual
manager at GAP, and is a college student.
Not many people can handle so much, but Katherine
seems to be thriving in this situation. When describing the RPG,
she makes it sound as if it’s all fun and games. She says, "It’s
a list on which we all play our character names from the NW and there are
some really cool story lines." If you are curious, the entire story
that the members of the RPG have spun is listed on the pages that she maintains.
Caroline Forbes, the last "VD nut" inducted
into Asgard, is a junior at Portland State University. As well
as studying and working at a dance company, Caroline is also neck deep
in Fell Andred, the Night World casting page. In Fell Andred they
list potential actors and actresses to play the parts of L.J. Smith characters,
should any one of her books be written into a script for a movie.
"It usually picks up after Cassie sends out the [weekly] newsletter,
because people see the ad and start thinking about casting movies. There
are a lot of potential casting directors in the NW!" says Caroline.
How do they feel about being inducted into
Asgard? Bonnie’s greatest pleasure was being inducted with Katherine
during Samhain. "It was even better that Bonnie and I were inducted
together. The two of us because close during the RPG, and it was
really special for me." says Katherine, who feels the same way. Caroline
was inducted directly after on Yule, and when she found out she felt "honored
and appreciated." Katherine was also delighted at the news of her
induction. She goes on to say, "It really makes you feel like people
do appreciate what you are doing, because 90% of the time, all people do
is yell about what you aren’t doing. But I was so happy."
