Hope

i hope one day, one far off day
that even god in haste yet may
overlook as a trifling thing
that to the table of history bring
not the merest morsel of a feat
to be chewed and swallowed like sweetmeat
on such a day from here I pin
what ragged hope i find within
and to this poor and stain'ed flag
I will to it my fortunes drag
