The Ice Cream Man

there are fifteen different types of ice cream
sold by the ice cream man
he comes around every day in summer
in his noisy van
the twinkle music calls to arms
the children of the street
they scurry out with little fists clenched
to the clatter of new-shoe'd feet
please please they shout up to the hand above
can i have a soandso
and like bread to the chosen tribes it comes
mana in a cone
the ice cream man stays only for moments
when the music stops he's gone
so when you hear that twinkling music
find change, put on shoes and run
