"WELCOME" to my Buckmaster of Claxton Hunting Club
down in Claxton GA. we are a still hunting club. But some of the
neighboring lands do run dogs. A group of us started this Club back
in 1993, we where
the second Club to have the right to hunt this 269.11 acres
track of land. The farm land is split up into 6 different
fields totaling 115 acres that are planted with Peanut, corn, soybeans,
cotton and the other part is planted pines now. We just had the
timber cut 2 years ago, since then we have been able to build more
food plots. We start planting in May or June this gives the deer a chance
to get used to the food plots before hunting season starts. Then
replanting again in August, after this the deer keep the Peas down to
nubs almost. Our food plots are between 200'Wide X 300'Long
and 150'Wide x 200'Long, at all of them we place Corn Feeders to help. I have
found out in the past the bigger the food plot the better your chances
are of having deer stop by to eat. Also the cover around the food plot
plays a role in it also. Deer like to have close cover by them for
quick get aways. So if you have a pocket in the woods that is about this
big it's a great place to plant as you can see in the picture.
Also along with Hunting Clubs come the work of building deer
stands for everyone to sit in, so called Club Stands so
you go to work to build stands that everyone can sit in and have a
enjoyable weekend while they hunt. Even if rains it still
time to go deer hunting! This stand is located in the honey hole
as we call it. If you look at the map it is the Right bottom
dot, all the other dots are Box stands also. Generally if it isn't
raining you can find most of us up in a tree with our Tree Climbers or
Ladder stands. Here are just a few buck that we have taken since we have hunted on the land.
The first on was taken by Michael my brother before the timber was cut in July 1997
