Who We Are and What We Offer
The
Jewish Society at CLS has been around for years, under
the command of icons such as Mr. Rosenberg (A.K.A.
Rozambique / The Beakster by his pupils). The Jewish contingent at City of London comes from a variety of backgrounds, from all over London. There is a strong sense of Jewish identity in the school, and there is a large representation of youth in the school from movements such as Bnei Akiva, FZY, Habonim, JYSG and RSY. Last year the head was Calev Bender, who can now be found on a BA year off somewhere in Israel, and you can read his report below. There have been loads of big name speakers who have come to our school in the past. We have also had Megillah readings at Purim, and there's regular a Mincha minyan during lunch break. This Autumn, for the first time ever at CLS, we have had a Succah courtesy of Schools J-Link, and we have many more plans for the year ahead. There's always good food at J-Soc meetings, so if you're a pupil, or just passing through, pop in for one of our events, or even stay for Mincha! |

Calev's Report about last years activities
Another
successful year for the Jewish Society. A wide range of
charismatic and interesting speakers included Mr. Keates
and Mr. Grossel, secretaries of Youth groups such as FZY,
BA, and Hanoar Hatzioni, a speaker from
Norwood-Ravenswood, as well as the usual dose of Rabbis
(especially Rabbi Wilshanski, the violin playing
comedian, who is an old favourite). Other memorable
events included of the hugely successful Gap Year
Fair and Israel's 50th Birthday celebrations (both with
CLSG), the massive bundle for Hamentashen on Purim
(where it again was demonstrated that the greatest crowd
puller is lots of food) and the weekly learning sessions
(ditto). Thanks for getting such great speakers must go
to Robert Fosterman and Ben Forman who were reliable
throughout the year, David Preston, (who displayed
unbelievable computer skills) and Simon Ruben, for good
liaison work , and Simon Hamilton, Yossi Feldmann and
Daniel Hofbauer for putting in the time. Next Year's
Chairman, Ben Koppelman, has lots to live up to, and I
wish lots of success."
