SIMPLIFIED VERSION OF ROBERT’S RULES OF ORDER

ARTICLE VII, SECTION 2

1. Once a motion is made by a speaker, it must be seconded by another M.E.Ch.A. member.

2. Discussion must follow.

3. Discussion can be ended by moving for the question, after which an immediate vote must be taken.

 A. Point of Information:  To request information on the motion being discussed.

 B. Friendly Amendment:  When you want to add something to someone else’s motion and they agree to it.

 C. Amendment:   When you want to add something to a motion and the person who made the motion does not agree to it.  The body votes on whether or not to accept it.

 D. Table a Motion:   When you think that the motion should be voted on at a later time (either during the meeting or at a future meeting).

 E. Withdraw a Motion:  Cancel your motion before the body votes on it (also known as “rescinding” or “to rescind a motion”).

 F. Call for The Order of The Day: When you want the chair to get the meeting back on the agenda.

 G. Point of Order:   When someone feels the person speaking isn’t referring to the motion being discussed.

 H. Quorum:    Certain number of people needed to vote on a motion to make it official.

 I. Call to Question:   Voting should take place immediately.

1. The chairperson can only recognize the speaker.

2. In order to be recognized, a person must raise their hand.

3. There will be a speaking order applied, meaning the first person the chair recognizes will speak first, etc.  No speaking out of turn!

4. Robert’s Rules of Order do apply.

5. RESPECT THE SPEAKER AT ALL TIMES!
