Preamble
As M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College,
we believe that Chicano students must take upon themselves the responsibility
to promote and encourage La Raza to pursue higher education, graduate,
and promote Chicanismo within El Pueblo Chicano. Furthermore, we
believe that the awakening of the Chicano consciousness and the fostering
of carnalismo among ALL Raza students must be achieved via educational
interactions, cultural activities, and political activism within El Movimiento
Chicano. In accordance with El Plan de Santa Barbara and the Philosophies
of M.E.Ch.A., we hereby establish this constitution.
Principles
1. Educational Goals: In order to advance La Causa, M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College stresses and encourages that every member make higher education their main priority for the benefit of nuestra Raza.
2. Guidelines: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College must abide, implement, and promote guidelines according to El Plan de Aztlan, El Plan de Santa Barbara, and the Philosophies of M.E.Ch.A.
3. Self Determination: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College is dedicated to la lucha for self determination for nuestro pueblo.
4. Hermandad: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College must socialize, as did our ancestors, under the spirit of effective communalism. We must unite to effectively and thoroughly undertake a struggle for the liberation of our gente throughout Ixachilan (Western Hemisphere).
5. Respect: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will not tolerate any individuals, groups, or organizations (members included) who threaten, slander, spread rumors against any Mechista, or who pit Mechistas against each other. These actions can only result in disharmony and division.
6. Disruption: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will not tolerate disruptive outbursts or uninvited acts or individuals during M.E.Ch.A. meetings and/or official M.E.Ch.A. functions.
7. Vulgarity: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will not tolerate abusive language and/or acts during M.E.Ch.A. meetings and/or official M.E.Ch.A. functions by any individual(s) and/or group(s)/organization(s).
8. Racism & Sexism: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will not tolerate any racist or sexist remarks, comments, or gestures during M.E.Ch.A. meetings and/or official M.E.Ch.A. functions by any individual(s) and or group(s)/organization(s).
9. Personal Interest: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will publicly denounce any Mechista and/or person who attempts to wrongfully use or manipulate M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College for his or her own personal interest.
10. Drugs & Alcohol:
M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will not allow individuals to attend
any M.E.Ch.A. meeting and/or official M.E.Ch.A. function under the influence
of illegal drugs or alcohol.
Objectives
1. Education: In order to advance La Causa, M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will promote and encourage nuestra Raza to pursue higher education for the benefit of La Raza.
2. Culture, History, Identity: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will promote our Raza’s culture, history, and identity by organizing/sponsoring and/or participating in events to build pride and identity amongst Raza and to educate non-Raza students about our proud and illustrious heritage.
3. Institutionalized Oppression: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will organize to end discrimination, racism, sexism, exploitation, and any other form of oppression against Raza who are residents with or without proof of documentation of citizenship.
4. Mass Awareness: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will organize to build mass awareness of the needs of Raza students in their schools and communities; targeting and implementing solutions in areas of education, cultural and social issues, politics, and economics.
5. Quality Education: M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will utilize all of it’s efforts toward the struggle for the foremost quality education for nuestra gente at Pasadena City College.
6. Sexism/Racism:
M.E.Ch.A. de Pasadena City College will organize and fight to end sexism
and racism against Raza in all sectors of the campus and community.
