SAM'S MARK:
SYNOPSIS
Voyager encounters another ship, stuck in an event horizon. As they
attempt to rescue it, they begin to realise that it is in fact Voyager
stuck in the event horizon, and that they are just seeing a reflection
of themselves from the future.
Meanwhile, since the chief engineer died when Voyager was swept into the Delta Quadrant, Lieutenants Torres and Carey are fighting it out for the coveted position. With Commander Chakotay supporting one candidate and Captain Janeway favouring the other it seems that Lieutenant Carey has the adavntage of having the Captain on his side. In order to win the Captain's favour, in spite of her record, B'Elanna Torres will have to discover the strength within herself to hold back her temper and let her real strengths show.
As Janeway and Torres begin to bond on a technobabble level, Janeway decides that she will take Torres with her on the shuttlecraft on a mission to free Voyager from the event horizon. Successful on the shuttle, they realise that there are two Voyagers out there and that they only have enough time before their escape closes to choose one.
Naturally, they choose the right one, Voyager is set free, and B'Elanna, having proven to Captain Janeway that she is better than Carey, is promoted to Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Voyager.
