In Episode 28, I visited New York City. This place was named after Amsterdam. But then, it was named after the fine mediaeval city in the north of England. Kerrin and I took a train from Kings Cross to York and stayed at the Youth Hostel there.
York has the largest Norman cathedral in Europe. It is the only place in Britain where a Roman Emperor has been crowned and it is steeped in History. Whilst visiting, we took a Ghost Walk to hear some of the stories of York's history. As with most places, in the olden days, traitors were killed and hung on Gibbets or their heads put on spikes as a lesson to any other miscreants who might want to cause trouble on their visit. |

Apparently, the cathedral in York contains more than half of the mediaeval stained glass in England. |
York is one of the most beautiful cities in England. The old street known as the Shambles has a certain charm. Its many historical buildings make it a great destination for a weekend away.
