Runs Modes,

arpeggios,

pentatonics,

chromatics,

exotic scales

(muted, legato, tapped)

Up/down

Sprouting,

Sequenced – 4, 3, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 (and reversed climbing/falling)

Sweeps – usual, 6 strings, exotic
Subdivision jumping
String skipping
Wide interval throwbacks (occasional), tapped or orthodox
Bends withing fast runs
Sequence number jumping (arpeggios)

Rules to apply:

Touch of string (you control) is true time!

In all different subdivisions – 8^th, triplets, 5^th, 6^th

Starting in different places in bar but fitting (double pick first note)

Focus on the phrase at the time for beauty & perfection

(clear, clean notes and beautiful intime bends and vibrato)

(keep a 1!)

For ideas that can’t be easily incorporated in improvisation, make licks.

Use a metronome

Press hard (for solid notes)

Move from knuckles!

Goals:

Without looking (hearing no flaws – beyond reproach and critisism)

All over the neck

Master a fast speed without conscious thought

With as little movement as possible but still fulfilled execution goals
