My Dad surprised 12 year old ME with a Honda Mini-Trail Motorcycle! I was the envy of the neighborhood and it is one of my fondest childhood memories! So much so that I even remember the date!

My beloved grandfather died. It was the first time anyone I really loved died. I was 17 and almost grown but I was devasted. My other grandfather had died before I was even born.

Nineteen seventy four was one of the worst years of my life. First, I lost my grandfather in the spring, then on Halloween night I was involved in a tragic, FATAL traffic accident. It was just about twilight and I was driving to town when I met a car coming over a hill. The lights temporarily blinded me and after the car passed, I saw someone crossing the road right in front of my car. Evidently, he had not seen or heard me coming because of the other car. I barely had time to hit the brakes at all and watched helplessly as my car struck him and he tumbled across my hood and smashed into my windshield. It is a sight I relive occasionally in my nightmares. It turned out he was a classmate of mine and a very popular student at my high school. His family were so kind and understanding towards my family and me, I will be forever grateful. I'm so sorry, Doug, that this happened to BOTH our families. Needless to say, this has had a profound effect on my life, I was only 17 at the time, and is a big part of who I am. I don't put this here to garner any pity or sympathy but because it was a "landmark" event in my life.

My 42nd birthday and one of the BEST I've ever had. All my new-found online friends were so kind and thoughtful and I felt such an outpouring of genuine affection that I cannot describe how I felt. After years of birthdays being "just another day", this one was truly special. A bunch of people who had been strangers to me until just a month before were now some of my closest friends! How wonderful!

My family and I board a plane in Charlotte, NC and travel further from home than any of us had ever been. I didn't know what to expect exactly from this trip considering I would be meeting face-to-face some very good friends that up to now I had only known in the "virtual" world. What an experience! EVERYONE was just as warm, friendly, and caring as they are online and there were no big surprises or disappointments. I am SO glad I went. What a wonderful trip to San Diego, meeting so many nice people and finding them to be EXACTLY as they were online, maybe even better! The baseball game, the tours, the airshow at Miramar and meeting Barbara Niven, the San Diego Zoo, the "hangin out" in the hottub, all just wonderful memories I will cherish all my life and hope someday to repeat.
