***These are mostly Daniel quotes.

Frogstomp

israel's son - "It's about an execution I saw on tele...I got this video of an execution, and I just saw it, and I was watching it one night, and I had a dream aobut it, and I woke up and thought, 'Oh yeah, that's pretty cool', and I wrote a song about it."
tomorrow - "I saw on SBS once this documentary about a poor guy that takes a rich guy to a poor persons' hotel to experience what it's like being a poor person and that. And the rich guy is complaining to get out and that, and he has to wait 'til tomorrow to get out of the hotel and that."
faultline - about a friend of Daniel's that was killed in the infamous Newcastle earthquake. pure massacre - Daniel was watching something about war on TV. "I think it was that Bosnia thing."
shade - Offering support to someone that's been abused, pushing them to get help. "Shade is on abuse. I saw [a program] on tele about it, just mental and physical abuse."
leave me out - Rejecting greed and power.
suicidal dream - Fantasizing about suicide, asking for help in tossing off the thoughts.
madman - The addiction of alcohol and how it takes over.
undecided - Parents fighting and taking the agression out on the kids, wishing they'd either get along or get a divorce, feeling forgotten in the wake of the war.
cicada - The process of growing up and out of the "shell" of childhood feels like your fighting against everyone, including yourself. The title is metaphorical of a cicada's metamorphosis.
findaway - When things get tough, don't give up. On the surface, it seems to be talking about someone that screwed up and now finds themself in jail, constantly regretting their mistake and wishing they were free.

Freak Show

slave - Performing at the wishes of the crowds... having no desire for the music anymore, but do it anyone just to please the crowd
freak - The lyrics parallel with the Freak Show idea, of getting up in front of the audience and putting on your show. Daniel got the idea for the opening lines ("No more maybes/Your baby's got rabies") from a television documentary which pictured a young child suffering from rabies sitting on a red ball in the Andes mountains of South America.
abuse me - "People just think you're different... like they just throw negative comments at you all the time. They don't really know what you're like. And that's what Abuse Me is kind of like because the lyrics are saying forget about 'em, just throw 'em away."
lie to me - lying
no association - Aggression towards people that seem to care but have alterior motives, just using you for the moment. May very possibly be directed towards uncaring fans and media.
cemetery - Feeling alone in a forgotten world of "good will and integrity" outside of a world of malice and hate. "It was just about, lyrically about feeling kind of entrapped in your hometown, feeling like you can't leave. It's kind of bordering on writing about anxiety and fear of leaving home, fear of the outside world." -- Thank you Angela for this Daniel quote
the door -
pop song for us rejects "That's about... drug addiction or any kind of habit or addiction holding you back from doing what you want to do really. It's just about not getting to do what you want to do and complaining about not getting what you want, but it's just because you're not trying to get what you want because you're always fucked up doing drugs or alcohol or something. It's just saying it's really stupid."
learn to hate - "It's just about like, hate and stuff, and how people hate other people for silly reasons."
petrol & chlorine - Giving up on life and withering away.
roses - Feeling the drain of life, almost giving in to death, but deciding not to give up.
nobody came - Child abuse
the closing - Another song of depression and checking out of life, looking on the outside world

Neon Ballroom

Emotion Sickness-"It's just a play on words. I think it's a very captivating song title. It really sums up what the songs is about. It's about all sorts of emotional disorders and the problems in someone's head."
Anthem For the Year 2000-"Anthem is about politicians looking at the youth and treating them like dirt like they don't exist like they're never going to mean anything, like they're just obsessed with drugs and sex. It's about politicians and their fascism and their yuppie mentality. It's just speaking on behalf of what my friends are feeling, and what I and a lot of young people in Australia are feeling. I just think it's silly for Australia. The more you restrict young people the more they're gonna resort to drugs or crime or whatever."
Ana's Song (Open Fire)-"It sounds like a love song, and it's kind of a love song to anorexia. Ana being the first name. Rexia being the last. There was a time in my life when I had these really bad phobias of certain food because I though they would cut my throat or cut my stomach. I couldn't eat anything hard, and for like six months I was just eating soup and fruit. Everything was distorted and that's pretty much what Emotion Sickness is about as well."
Spawn Again-"It's about animal experimentation and the exploitation of animals in laboratories."
Miss You Love-"Miss You Love is about being stuck in a mental state and not being able to find any form of love outside tour family because you're too afraid to commitment and getting attached to someone. A lot of people think it's a love song. It's not actually a love song at all. I originally wrote it to be misinterpreted -- it was a deliberate thing. It's about not being in love, not finding love, and not caring about it. That's why it says 'miss you love,' and when people hear it on the radio they will probably think, yeah, that is a love song, but once they read the lyrics they will realise that it's really an anti-love song written to be interpreted as a love song so it can appeal to more people."
Dearest Helpless-"Once people get too involved in the whole rock and roll lifestyle, a lot of people tend to forget about the 9-to-5 world out there, which isn't bad or good -- it's just something that happens, and a lot of people get so consumed in the whole rock and roll thing that they forget there is a whole other world out there which really doesn't care about music at all."
Do you feel the same-I haven't gotten to find out what this song means, so if you know, email me!
Black Tangled Heart-"I don't really know how to describe that song. I suppose that it follows the same kind of lyrical idea to Miss You Love but it's a lot more, a lot more down. It's about just feeling like everything is collapsing on you because you don't have anyone to love...it's all contained, and then all of a sudden anger comes out for six bars or whatever..."
Point of View-"It's about being in a vulnerable state and then someone taking advantage of you."
Satin Sheets-"That’s about the corporate world looking down on people. If I walk into a restaurant or a café or something, there’s this whole Yuppie mentality of people who think I shouldn’t be there because I don’t brush my hair. But I’ve probably got more money then them. It’s about people who think that unless you look rich, you’re not rich, and if you don’t look rich, you don’t deserve to be at a café having a cup of coffee."
Paint Pastel Princess-"That’s about anti-depressant drugs that totally level you out. You no longer feel high and you no longer feel lows. It’s all just the same. That whole song is a reference to drugs, just referring to antidepressants and a princess and a saviour."
Steam Will Rise-"it's about being contained through violence, being scared to be yourself because you don't want to get attacked. It's about people punishing your self-esteem and just making you scared to be yourself for fighting against it."
