New Radicals cancel RockFest appearance

After canceling plans for a U.K. tour last week, the New Radicals have now pulled out of a scheduled appearance at the inaugural edition of the Hard Rock RockFest being held in Atlanta on June 5.

Spokespeople for both the New Radicals and RockFest confirm that the band has withdrawn from the concert, which is expected to draw a crowd of some 150,000 to the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

According to representatives for the Radicals' American label, MCA Records, an unspecified member of the group's touring lineup has fallen ill, prompting Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander to nix its RockFest gig as well as its U.K. tour, which was to kick off on May 17 in London. Earlier reports had suggested that Alexander was the one who had become sick, a claim that the band's publicist flatly denied.

RockFest officials will now seek another act to replace the New Radicals for the all-day concert, whose lineup currently features the Offspring, Third Eye Blind, and Everlast, among others. Organizers are hoping to announce the stand-in band within the next week.

Meanwhile, the New Radicals will spend the downtime planning a video for "Someday We'll Know," the second single from the band's debut record, "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too."
