Welcome to the world of Gregg Alexander, New Radicals' mainman, emotional misfit and writer of some very fine pop songs. It's a world where Alexander digs deep into the records of the 70's and 80's (Prince, Hall and Oates, Billy Joel, they're all here) that underscored his Michigan childhood to come up with a tale of failed relationships and the quest for freedom. That may sound a little weighty and contrived, but with lyrics of the "she wanted to be a nun until the fateful day we met" variety and the glide of the arrangements it's easy to have fun. No doubt you're sick of the debut single, You Get What You Give, but take comfort in the fact that there's another 11 songs every bit as infectious and drop-dead cool. And on the likes of I Hope I Didn't Just Give Away The Ending and I Don't Wanna Die Anymore, Alexander shows his knack of welding gorgeous ballads to caustic lyrics. You'll love it.
