New Radicals

'Maybe you've been brainwashed too'

MCA/Universal

Fresh, but uneven

Behind New Radicals we find the american Gregg Alexander, formerly better known as the one who helped Danielle Brisebois into the world of popmusic.

Alexander does it best on his own, with drifting, fresh seventies pop, with small traces of Rn'B. After the five first songs on the album, we can actually sense the taste of a little sensation, where Alexander's hectic voice (best described as somewhere between Jeff Lynne and Karl Wallinger) dominates a handfull of very melodic goodies.

Sadly, the musical intensity falls midways in the album, before everything is rounded off with beautiful 'Crying like a church on monday' (what a title!). Therefore, the whole is somewhat uneven, but the highlights ('You get what you give', 'I hope I didn't just give away the ending', and 'I don't wanna die anymore') are irresistible.
