3/27/00 Los Angeles, CA Wiltern Theatre
Before the Show
My friends and I left the house around 3:30 and arrived at the Wiltern Theatre around 4pm. We waited by the entrance of
backstage hoping to catch a glimpse of AJ or any of the band members. First person I saw was Ali Navarro from
Nobody's Angel, she was very cute and waved at us. It was funny because me and my friends were just talking
about her and suddenly she appeared out of no where with a bodyguard. As time passed by more and more
fans came pouring in. Next person we saw come out of backstage was Chris Connelly from MTV, who was nice enough to sign
autographs for everyone
and take pictures with everyone. I felt really stupid because I was really excited for the concert and my mind was going crazy.. so when
I first saw him come out I yelled "John Norris!!" later to find out his name was Chris.. but it's ok b/c I told him I was really
sorry and he said it was alright.
If you notice at the Backstreet Band front page, there is a group picture. It was taken at the Wiltern Theatre's dressing room. In the right of the picture you will see
a little window. Well if you open that window you could all the fans outside including me. Maybe around 5 or so they opened the window and videotaped everyone outside.
Many cameras were videotaping everyone... one of the camaras was for the BSB Fun Club/Millennium TV and another was for MTV. Now the highlight of my day... the security guards were trying to
separate the fans into 2 sections to make room
because they said someone was going to come. Everyone was going crazy wondering who it might be...minutes later a SUV came driving by
and the driver of the SUV was Howie himself!! I felt really sorry for Howie because all these girls start surrounding the SUV and he couldn't move at all.
At that moment I was sooo excited and ran to the SUV and from all the excitement I start pounding on the
front passenger seat screaming "Howie, I Love You!!" He was nice enough to wave a little but looked really scared. Maybe
because he was afraid he might hurt someone and the SUV might get ruined from everyone pounding it
especially. since it wasn't his SUV.
I feel really bad for doing pounding on the window but I just couldn't help it b/c he was sooo cute!! I looked to see what was inside the car
and I saw he had a Burger King bag with lots of napkins and he was holding his Burger King drink. The security guards were
totally unprepared for this to happen.. but threatened to arrest or fine people who pound on the car.
After seeing this, I think Howie is a good driver. Few hours later we went inside to our seats which were balcony seats... but before the show I was looking
down at the people in front row and checking if anyone I knew was down there. I noticed this girl with
a zebra print jacket and a zebra print purse with a
bodyguard and I immediately knew it was Amanda Latona. At first a few girls were waving at her then all of a sudden
a bunch of girls surrounded her.. taking pictures with her.. getting her autograph.. or just hugging her. From what I saw,
I thought she was very pretty and was like nicest person. She was hugging everyone and approached
everyone so kindly. But she had to leave because some fans threw stuff at her and I guess her bodyguard wanted her to go back. So she left
thanks to the *rude* fans who threw stuff at her. I thought those people
throwing stuff at her was really rude and selfish of them to do it. Claudia
(Howie's g/f or the one he is dating) was there
and some guy from Baywatch and Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Harvey's best friend).
Opening Act
I was really shocked to see AJ come out at the beginning of the show with JoJo (DJ for 102.7
kiis-fm). They came out to introduce Mindi Abair. I was totally amazed by her talent. Not only can she play plenty of instruments
but she can write songs and sing really well!! I really loved her voice and the songs she sang. She did an amazing job
and was very stylish as well. The next opening act was Nobody's Angel.. they did a good performance.
And had great songs and nice dance moves. They did their best to pump the audience up for Johnny No Name.
Main Show
Many critics from Rolling Stones and LA Times didn't have a great review of this concert but I thought they were
completely wrong! In my true opinion I thought AJ or Johnny didn't a spectacular job! He has an outstanding voice
that can sing any type of song. Johnny sang a variety of songs from Stone Temple Pilots to Rage Against Machine.
The one thing about the concert that got some people annoyed was how loud all the fans were.. so loud you couldn't
her the music well! The highlights of the show was when Johnny sang a few Backstreet Boys songs including
"If You Knew What I Knew", "Hey Mr. DJ", "Lay Down Beside Me", and a short version of "Don't Want You Back".
Another highlight of the show was when Johnny sang Brian McKnight's song, "Back At One" with a fantastic new singer Christian.
Johnny had said Christian was the only one in the Backstreet Boys label (not Jive but BSB's own label). But the best part
was when Johnny left and AJ came back with just jeans on!! Also with a special guest, Howie D. The two did a duet of the song "Brick House".
It was an unforgettable songs but it was totally not the regular Backstreet Boys concert. There was all the fans
you would normally see and the excitement in the air but I just didn't know the words to like half of the songs he sang.
From watching this concert I have much more respect for AJ, the band, and Mindi
Abair. At the very end 2 of the guys from EYC and Christian came out to sing
along with AJ, Howie, and the rest of the band. If you are lucky enough
to get to the show, you will defenitely have the time of your life!
After the Show
After seeing Howie getting in the Wiltern Theatre, he would obviously need to get out so me and my friends went
back to where we were earlier in the day. The window opened a few times, some
of the band members waved at us and I caughth a glimpse of the back
of AJ's head. Mindi came out with Matt Hagar (the guy singing back-up for Johnny and
Mindi) and another guy holding a box full of pictures of her
for her to sign and hand out to everyone. She was really sweet and I got to take a picture with
her again.. too bad she didn't remember me from Las Vegas but it's ok. She signed for everyone and took
pictures with almost everyone who still had film left. Everyone was anticipating for AJ to come out.
When AJ did come out, he took the other way to get out but it was still close to where I was. Suddenly everyone was chasing the
SUV AJ was in. But unfortunately for AJ he was stopped by the red light. And
a bunch of girls ran to the middle
of the street pounding the door. I noticed the door opened and fans started screaming even louder. But all these
cars started honking because it was the green already and AJ had to go. After that Howie came out, but he was
smart and drove really fast and then made a u-turn and drove fast again. So no one was able to pound on his door again... That's the end of my long Johnny No Name Concert review... but remember
