LIKELY LAST SEASON FOR "X-FILES" From: Ultimate TV

Executive Producer Chris Carter said he expects the upcoming season to be the last for "The X-Files." Explaining that both his and David Duchovny's contracts expire in 2000, Carter told reporters in Pasadena Thursday "I'm writing the next 22 episodes as the wrap-up."

While praising Emmy kingpin "The Sopranos" and its creator David Chase, Carter admitted he was "kind of disappointed" that "The X-Files" failed to be nominated for an Emmy earlier today, asserting that "this was one of our best years."

Carter previewed his new sci-fi series for Fox "Harsh Realm," which features a war-torn virtual reality scenario. He was inspired, he said, by "Saving Private Ryan" as well as classic war films including Stanley Kubrick's "Paths of Glory" and "Platoon."

DAVID DUCHOVNY IN HOLLYWOOD GRAPEVINE From: TV Guide

You saw in our July 10 Insider that X-Files superfan Bree Sharp had written a love song for the object of her affections titled "David Duchovny," with such lines as "So smug and so smart/He's abducted my heart." And that some pals of Duchovny surprised him with a video version featuring lip-synching cameos from such stars as Brad Pitt, Rosie O'Donnell and Kiss. (We saw the video. Not only does it have a catchy tune, but the cameos, including one by Duchovny after he found out about the surprise, are hilarious.) What you don't know is that Duchovny loves the song and listens to it all the time. His big fear? That someone will see him tooling around Los Angeles singing along to such lyrics as "David Duchovny, why don't you love me?" and think he has a big head. Don't worry, Dave. We love the song, too.

SAME OLD 'X-FILES' CREDITS From: Cinescape

The X-Files season premiere is a full four months away, but it's never too early for the Insider to dispel a piece gossip already churning through the rumor mill. There's been talk that a new opening credits sequence would be used in the show's seventh season, replete with a clips montage and updated theme from composer Mark Snow. When Cinescape magazine asked X-Files co-executive producer Frank Spotnitz about the rumor, he said the report was false. "I don't know where that's coming from," Spotnitz told Cinescape. "I think the last time we seriously discussed updating the main title was two years ago. I think now we're just going to see this [opening sequence] through the end. It's worked well for us so far."

"RETURN TO ME" WRAP PARTY From: Chicago Sun Times, July 13, 1999

Wrap 'em . . .

Havin' a Bonnie good time! The cast and crew of "Return to Me," directed by Chicago actress Bonnie Hunt, took over the entire Club Macanudo Saturday for a wrap party for the movie, which finishes filming in Chicago this week.

The 375 guests, including actors David Duchovny, Carroll O'Connor and Robert Loggia and actress Minnie Driver, partied until 2:15 a.m. Director Hunt, who celebrated with several members of her family, showed a gag reel of bloopers from the movie's filming.

"Bonnie Hunt was the life of the party," said one person in attendance. "She talked to everyone she could and had a real positive presence."

MUSING OVER MULDER From: TV Guide, 10-16 July

Attention Members of the David Duchovny Estrogen Brigade: You are not the only ones lusting after the hunky X-Files star. Singer Bree Sharp has gone so far as to pen a musical valentine - simply titled "David Duchovny" - to the man who plays Fox Mulder. With the infectious single from Sharp's debut CD, 'A Cheap and Evil Girl' (out July 27), already receiving radio airplay, her once-private crush is no longer a secret.

"I'm not the kind to fall easily for TV stars," says the single, New York-based Sharp. "but he's got it going on." Witness such lyrics as "So smug and so smart / He's abducted my heart" and a chorus that finds her repeating, "David Duchovny, why won't you love me?" The song arrested the attention of Duchovny - and Hollywood - when a copy of the humorous ditty reached the offices of The X-Files earlier this year, and members of the staff made a video featuring Duchovny, plus lip-synching cameos by Rosie O'Donnell, Brad Pitt and Kiss. (The chances of the video airing on TV are slim; the celebrities involved would have to consent, and they participated as a lark.)

Now Sharp plans to film the "official" video, without the man of honor. "I haven't met him," she says. "But it seems like the inevitable end to all of this."

GILLIAN "JEDI" ANDERSON? From: Another Universe, The Daily Buzz

Could the Force soon be with Agent Scully? Gillian Anderson is reportedly in talks with Lucasfilm to play a female Jedi in Episode 2.

The Star Wars Realm Web site reportedly got an email from a Lucasfilm source that said The X-Files star will put down the Sig-Sauer P-220 for a light saber.

HUDNALL TALKS 'HARSH REALM' From: Cinescape

Confirming previous rumors, James Hudnall, co-creator of Harsh Realm with Andrew Paquette, is happy about the pilot episode of Chris Carter's new television series based on his comic book. While talking to the Detroit News Comic Book Continuum, Hudnall revealed his opinion saying "It is excellent. One of the best TV pilots I have ever seen. However, he (Carter) changed the characters and the setting to modern times. It's now sort of like a cross between The Matrix and Apocalypse Now." Hudnall also has kudos for select cast members saying, "D.B. Sweeney is great. He is like a hard-edged Han Solo, and Scott Bairstow is also really cool. Terry O'Quinn makes for a great villain." Hudnall also revealed that the pilot features appearances by Lance Henriksen (Millennium) and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files).

DAVID KNOWS HIS OWN MIND From: Reader's Digest, July 1999

David Duchovny took the long way around to become the most unlikely thrill-a-minute actor. "The X-Files" star grew up in Manhattan, went to a private school, then logged four years at Princeton and five at Yale in pursuit of a doctorate in English literature. As a member of Princeton's class of 1982, he recalls snickering at a roommate's acting ambitions while he kept his own nose in the books. But at Yale he got involved in theater. He never picked up the Ph.D., but he landed minor film roles, then reached success playing special agent Fox Mulder in his current television series. Duchovny dislikes small talk but exhibits a dry sense of humor. And he downplays his extensive college education. "If you're smart, you'll always be humble," he says. "You can learn all you want, but there'll always be somebody who's never read a book who'll know twice what you know." There is a pic of David with a quote beneath it that says- "Marriage plants your fees firmly - you can take a better swing that way". (Image here).

SMOULDER & SCULLY From: June 8, The Daily Record

GILLIAN Anderson took shelter from the Scottish rain yesterday - and there wasn't a flunky in sight to hold her umbrella.

The down-to-earth star puffed on a cigarette during a break in shooting her new movie, and had lunch in a sodden football field where the film crew set up camp.

Gillian, once voted the world's sexiest woman, earns £3 million playing Dana Scully in The X Files opposite David Duchovny - fellow FBI agent Fox Mulder.

But yesterday, the single mother was ferried around in a fairly unglamorous Peugeot 406, into which she had to cram her billowing skirts, on the first day of filming House Of Mirth. Gillian, on location in Glasgow's west end, will earn the princely sum of £250 a day for her role. The 30-year-old star bore no resemblance to Dana Scully, the character who has made her so famous.

Her distinctive red hair was swept back into a bun and she was dressed in a black, full-length Victorian dress and a starched white cap. She spent most of the day hard at work, filming at a mansion on Great Western Road. The events in the story take place in New York at the beginning of the century.

But producers decided to film in Glasgow because its achitecture is so similar to that of the turn-of-the- century Big Apple.

After working on interior scenes, Gillian stopped for lunch about one o'clock. She was driven off in the blue Peugeot to the small pitch a mile or so away.

A dozen caravans and lorries on the site, opposite Glasgow University's Queen Margaret Hall, kept the actress from the gaze of passers-by as she had a coffee and a bite to eat.

At about 2.30pm, she emerged from one of the caravans in a different outfit, a cream dress.

Gillian is playing Lily Bart, a young woman in 1905 New York. She meets lawyer Lawrence Selden - Eric Stoltz - and falls in love. But Lawrence has little money and she is unsure whether to marry him or look for a wealthy husband.

The screenplay is based on the novel by Edith Wharton and the film also features Dan Aykroyd. Sex scenes will be shot in the Glasgow Lord Provost's dining room at the City Chambers.

Gillian is staying in Glasgow with her four-year-old daughter, Piper.

Scots Base For X-Files Star From: Gillian & David : The Archives

Gillian Anderson, star of the cult science fiction show The X-Files, was today in Glasgow to promote her new movie being filmed in the city. Ms Anderson, famous for her role as paranormal detective Dana Scully, will be adopting a totally different look for the period drama The House of Mirth.

She will be playing the role of Lily Bart, a socialite at the height of her success in 1905 New York who quickly discovers the precariousness of her position when her beauty and charm start attracting unwelcome interests and jealousy.

The screenplay is based on the book by Edith Wharton, and the decision was taken to film in Glasgow because of the unsuitability of many American locations where the architecture was too modern.

Ms Anderson, wearing a light grey jumper and dark skirt with a long split up the side, said she was happy to be in Glasgow and was looking forward to the filming.

She will be working with director Terence Davies and Ms Anderson said this greatly encouraged her to make the movie. She said: "I think first and foremost the attraction was to work with Terence. "Only afterwards on reading the novel again did I realise how lucky I was to be involved with it. It is a tremendous piece of work."

Ms Anderson, whose grandfather on her mother's side was of Scottish origin, said she had been to Scotland before as a child and added: "I am very excited to come back. I am really happy to be here."

Eric Stoltz, who also stars along with Dan Aykroyd, said he had been to Glasgow many times before and he was thrilled to be in the film.

Director Terence Davies said he was not a great TV watcher and had at first been unaware of Ms Anderson's role in the X-Files. He added: "I was looking for someone with that kind of period look and I saw her face with that extraordinary kind of luminosity and I thought that is it, but I thought she would never say yes."

Filming, which begins on Monday, will take place at a number of locations throughout Glasgow, which is this year's City of Architecture and Design, with some scenes also being shot on the east coast.

The House of Mirth is a Three Rivers Production presented by Granada Films in association with The Arts Council of England, Film Four, the Scottish Arts Council and the Glasgow Film Fund."

X Files Film Sequel Planned for 2000 From: From Sunday's NY Daily News New York Vue

"There is a plan to make another The X Files movie, the summer following the last season of the show [which will be next year]," according to Mitch Pileggi, who plays Asst. Director Walter Skinner. He also says he wasn't concerned that this past season would be the final one for the series "because I knew what everyone's contracts were." Pileggi reports the team will return to work in late July. That includes his wife, Arlene, who is Gillian Anderson's photo double on the show, and sometimes plays Skinner's secretary. "It's hard to get through our scenes together sometimes because of laughing at each other," he says. "She's not used to seeing me with that hard demeanor."

Blurb in Detail Magazine (June)

The X-Files 2 Series guru Chris Carter has confirmed that M & S will be back, and he implies that the plot will involve fewer alien conspiracies and more stright-ahead adventure. Carter also reportedly conceded that "Mulder and Scully love each other...I wanted their relationship to be a romance without being sexual." Wait, is this is the X-Files sequel or The Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Story? Why it might not suck: Time and space are artificial constructs, insinuated into the fabric of being by fitire intelligence. String theory posits time and energy folded in on itself, making simltaneity of being a function of higher consciousness. Therefore, the aliens among us have already seen the X-Files 2, and loved it.

Bree Sharp

BREE SHARP is at heart a folk rock artist with an incredible popsensibility (in addition to being witty, sexy and intelligent). The NYU graduate has always used writing to express herself.

The most instantly memorable track is the strangely playful "David Duchovny," about her infatuation with the X-Files star. "I’m a huge fan of the show," she says. "While the song is about David Duchovny specifically, it’s also a song about pop stars and our desires to meet them, know them and be them."

With influences that range from ELVIS COSTELLO to BOB DYLAN and PATTI SMITH to PATTY GRIFFIN, she is interested in songs that are clever and atmospheric.

"I’m writing three-minute pop songs," explains BREE. "But I want to do something that makes you think — that’s not ladled into your mouth…that’s what I like about the X-Files. It leaves you wanting more. You have to figure it out."

The first single "David Duchovny" will impact alternative, rock and pop radio on May 24th with the album street date scheduled for June 29th.

Baby Blurb From: TV Guide

Don’t hold your breath for a picture of David Duchovny and Téa Leoni’s new baby girl. Unlike other stars who pose with their offspring, this couple won’t have any of it. It’s a privacy thing. In fact, the duo didn’t even release the baby’s name (it’s Madelaine West, and we hear she looks just like Dad). The April 24 birth capped a busy period for Duchovny, who had directed an episode of The X-Files for the first time. He got raves for the April 25 show, but they didn’t come easily. After filming a few scenes, a guest star, Darren McGavin of Night Stalker fame, became ill, forcing producers to fill in with M. Emmet Walsh. McGavin’s reps say he is "recovering."

Random Notes from Rolling Stone, June 10, 1999 From: The Haven

Singer-songwriter Bree Sharp turned a fan obsession with David Duchovny into a record deal with her witty ode to Fox's fox ("David Duchovny, I want you to love me/To kiss and to hug me, debrief and debug me.") "The song is about David, but it's also about the way fantasy and reality blur," Sharp says. "And how giddy, hot and excellent that can be." "David Duchovny" not only caught the ear of Trauma Records, but a tape made its way to Duchovny, who put it into heavy rotation in his trailer. "David kept on playing it," says Charles Forsch, assistant to X-Files creator, Chris Carter. Along with another XF assistant, Will Shivers, Forsch created a video for the song, splicing clips of Duchovny (who is currently celebrating the birth of his baby daughter) with on-the-fly footage of celebs like Brad Pitt, Pamela Anderson, and George Clooney lip-synching the lyrics. "Most of the celebrities don't have any relationship with David," Forsch says. "But once they heard the song, they were! into it." The single will be on the radio in June, but don't wait for the video--it's headed for an undisclosed government facility due east of Roswell, New Mexico.

From MSN Entertainment Channel

Gillian Anderson leaves the FBI behind--at least temporarily--andenters high society in the film adaptation of Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth, set in turn-of the-century New York. Anderson stars as glamorous socialite Lily Bart, whose world is tuned upside down when she must choose between true love and a rich husband who will secure her shaky position in society. Other socialites include Dan Aykroyd, Eric Stoltz, Anthony LaPaglia and Jodhi May.

Anderson Plays NY Socialite From: Ultimate TV

Gillian Anderson, who plays brainy, serious Agent Dana Scully on the cult hit “The X-Files,” is set to star in a new film based on the Edith Wharton novel “The House of Mirth,” reports Variety. The movie will go into production this summer in Scotland and the south of France.

Anderson will star as Lily Bart, a beautiful socialite who must choose between material comfort and true love.

“The glittering facade of New York society at the turn of the century only thinly veils a compassionless world of savage humor and cruelty. Lily is an unsuspecting and almost Hitchcockian heroine so caught up in a society of hypocrisy and concealment that she does not see the danger she is in until it is too late,” said Director and screenplay writer Terence Davies.

Already signed on are Dan Aykroyd (“Saturday Night Live”), Eric Stoltz (“Chicago Hope”), Laura Linney (“Love Letters”), Anthony LaPaglia (“Lansky”), and Jodhi May (“Signs and Wonders”).
